Enjoyed stay made to feel welcome our room was basic but clean and lovely clean bedding and towels food was good but a lot needs to inprove in staff training no tea spoons,serving spoons,no water when we did get some meal was over staff didt seem to no what they doing entertainment was good would visit again if better staff traiining

room warm and comfortable,bed great,good view over river and really helpful and friendly bar and reception staff,DOWNSIDE,although the food was good the waiting staff did not have a clue and we had to ask for cups for the tea,butter for the toast and glasses to pour the juice in to,and when you are made to wait while a waitress continues to set out tables as a priority over a waiting guest some serious training needs to be done,.sort out the restaurant and you will have a good hotel

We stayed at the Star on a Skills weekend. Although some of the rooms have been upgraded, ours hadn't, and had no heating and the beds were very hard and very creaky. The owner would have been better to spend money on upgrading all the rooms to the same standard rather than extending the downstairs bar so that they could hold entertainment - after all, who wants to have a good nights entertainment but then a sleepness night in a freezing cold room? He should also keep a closer eye on his waiting staff, who didn't seem to have any system or common sense - our breakfast experience was on a Faulty Towers scale. Waitresses blamed the chef, and the owner blamed the waitresses - not good policy! On a positive note, the food at dinner was lovely and the staff were friendly. This could be a superb hotel with some care and attention as the building is lovely

Tiny rooms with such unhelpfull staff. Never again!
