“Cold bedroom and hard beds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We stayed at the Star on a Skills weekend. Although some of the rooms have been upgraded, ours hadn't, and had no heating and the beds were very hard and very creaky. The owner would have been better to spend money on upgrading all the rooms to the same standard rather than extending the downstairs bar so that they could hold entertainment - after all, who wants to have a good nights entertainment but then a sleepness night in a freezing cold room? He should also keep a closer eye on his waiting staff, who didn't seem to have any system or common sense - our breakfast experience was on a Faulty Towers scale. Waitresses blamed the chef, and the owner blamed the waitresses - not good policy! On a positive note, the food at dinner was lovely and the staff were friendly. This could be a superb hotel with some care and attention as the building is lovely

Don't bother to try and book! E-mail enquiries were not answered and on phoning the owner, if it was she, obviously did not want our business. Very unaccommodating to any specific requests and downright rude towards the end of the conversation. Will not be trying to stay there again.

“Do not waste your money”

Our company use to use this hotel 5 years ago, it was ropey then thats why we moved our business. Being told this year it was being refurbished, i gave it another chance. Dont bother they have refurbished about 8 rooms and you will not get one of those. I had a room with an old tv with 4 channels, bed was broken and smelt of old fags. Its like going back to the seventies. and forget parking they rent out the spaces.
At the rate they are going, try it in 2013.
They have lost a lot of business from us.

“A bit ropey with a cold shower to boot”

Hmmm - could do with a lick of paint, a makeover in general and a new boiler! We were only supplied one towel between the two of us, however, as the shower was freezing cold, only one of us managed to brave it, so only the one was needed after all! Maybe that's their money saving plan?!
It's a real shame, coming away for the night is supposed to be a treat, but my wallpaper is intact in my bedroom at home, plus I am able to have a hot shower every morning!
A real shame as the property has so much potential given the beautiful, historic building and prime location. Parking was included though so that was a bonus.

Room Tip: keep looking - I am sure something in Yarmouth wil provide that 'home from home' feel. Whwn...
