“Not what it could be.”

I decided to upgrade to superior room for my two night business stay. The room was very poorly lit with just one lounge chair. The TV was not working on arrival but this was dealt with by the staff. A good sized TV but freeview channels are very limited. The cable based internet was not working and there was no Wi Fi. In this day and age it is unacceptable to not offer WiFi. I had specifically stated that I wanted internet use prior to booking the room with the hotel. I was loaned a dongle that could not handle even a simple email. The air conditioning did not work on heating so a noisy, low powered, supplementary heater had been screewed to the wall.

The bathroom was fairly nice but my shower was cold to luke warm in the morning and despite being reported, was the same the following morning.

The pool area is ok and the pool a nice temperature but the jacuzzi was out of order.

Food in the restaurant was excellent but expensive. On checking out I told the staff about my problems but I only received an "oh, sorry about that". Had I not have been in a hurry I would have taken the matter further. This hotel could be so much better!

“beautiful views, you may need a taxi to your room.”

It seems odd that the reservations at the hotel would not match that of Laterooms but I got a good rate. In the daylight the hotel looks dated with the white plastic cladding, at night much better. The bar and restaurant at smartly decorated. The corridors are long and cold, some take an age to get to. Our bathroom was freezing, something the previous guest had noted after we read the message on the mirror in the bathroom once it had steamed up. The gym needs modernising but ok for a quick workout. The location is excellent, stunning views on a nice clear day, it's worth a visit as long as you can secure a decent rate for the night. The staff are courteous and accommodating, the breakfast good, remind the staff to put the sauces out though.

“Time for a change!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I booked this hotel for myself and my husband for one night's stay mainly to use the spa facilities! I wish I had come on to tripadvisor and read the reviews first!!! There was only one staff member who was working on the day, bearing in mind it was a peak weekend! He was absolutely fabulous and couldnt be more helpful but he was a male and so couldnt go into the womens changing rooms to keep them clean, as it was absolutely filthy!!! The floor was wet, there was rubbish on the floor. Later in the evening one of the female members of staff from front desk was seen to be cleaning the womens changing rooms. Short staffed at front desk and the spa department! The whole spa area needs an update as their was mould in the showers, and the jacuzzi in the main pool area had not been working for a few days. I had heard regular paying members complaining how filthy the spa area was that day and has been for a while now, but are not being listened to by management. On observation it does seem that the new management just concentrating on the hotel side of things and not the clublife health and fitness they call it!! They need to respect there customers including the regular paying customers and also need to respect the staff better. Why advertise something it's not!!!!!!!!!
Oh and to top it off the room we stayed in even though it was a smoking room, stunk of stale smoke. Does it take alot to air out the room from previous customers!!!
The only thing going for this hotel is the location and dining experience where the chef is amazing. A little pricey with having paid £50 for a 2 course meal but worth every bite.

We had a lovely stay at the Langstone.First class stay,we had a lovely room.Very comfortable with a wet room type shower and our own bath robes and slippers(we paid an extra £20 for the upgrade)Th.e room and was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.We only had breakfast in the hotel which was one of the best I have had in any hotel. There are two very nice pubs over the bridge which you can see from the hotel which are well worth the 10 min walk. The hotel is a 15 min drive from portsmouth and the shops at Gunwarth Q are well worth a visit. We would love to go back again. If you are into fitness they also have a decent pool and gym.(groupon voucher)We stayed in room 226.

“Relaxing, good location”

Stayed Jan 2012. Paid £150 for 2 nights inc breakfast for luxury room.

Spacious room with one double and one single bed (only asked for a double but extra was fine). Included is a 32 inch tv but there are only a few free channels. There was no mini bar or fridge in the room which we were surprised at. There is free Internet via cable, no wifi in the rooms (just lobby). Good view of the water and in a quiet part of the hotel (room 263).

A benefit of the luxury room is that you get a walk in shower. Absolutely loved the shower, no idea how they get so much pressure, but it absolutely soaks the bathroom!! We had no idea how to make it stop, the water actually moves uphill towards the door, soaking the tiles around the toilet and sink area. If this was sorted it would be an awesome addition worth paying for.

Breakfast was nice, sausages were good, but though the scrambled eggs could be a lot better. TIP: you can order eggs in your style from the waiters to get them delivered to your table.

We used the pool, steam room and jacuzzi - all were good and as expected. Its not exclusive to the hotel as it is also a fitness centre for members.

Staff were great, can't fault them.

You can get late checkout for free till 12 or till 6pm for £25.

It is a 15 minute, 10 mile, drive to Gunwarf area. We didn't see any public transport from the hotel so be aware of this. If you're not coming by car it may be better to chose a hotel in town

Overall an enjoyable experience. We would stay here again because it is close enough to town but in a quiet location with ample free parking.
