“Still room for improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

Since my review of this hotel in March 2010 I have stayed here twice more, not by choice but on adult education courses.
Not such a friendly greeting at reception as last year, but quickly checked into bedroom.
One bedside light not working, but quickly fixed by chambermaid.Lighting very poor, unable to read in bed
Food in restaurant better, but service very slow due lack of staff Good choice for each course but everything high in fat,but plainer food available given notice.
Like last year the same problem
1Very cold bathroom because radiator not working.Twice reported to reception but to no avail because maintenance person only comes in on a Monday for 2-3 hours
In addition space between headboard and locker very dirty and had not been cleaned for a long time.
Staff very friendly and do their best under difficult conditions
What this hotel needs are
1 A housekeeper to check all rooms prior to guests arriving and all common areas
2A maintenance person in more often and or use of emergency service

Room Tip: Before arriving do not set your sights too high

“Needs money spent on it - and fast!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2009

I got such a cheap rate at this hotel that it seems churlish to complain, though anyone paying anything near the rack-rate would have cause to feel agrieved. It's tired, worn out and needs a total refurbishment - once this is done it should be a pleasant place to stay. Until then my advice would be 'avoid' . . . unless you can get it for under £30 a night as I did.

“In need of modernisation!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2009

The green man pub as it is known, is in a quite part of Essex, nr Harlow and is quite easy to get to.
From the outside the Pub/ coachhouse looks traditional and quite promising, however once inside it is somewhat of a let down, the bar and restaurant areas are not oldy worldy infact they appear to have been touched up and bodged on the cheap and in need of a lick of paint etc..
The staff on Reception however are pleasant and efficient.
The rooms are in a seperate building at the rear of the pub, on first impressions the stairs and corridors look well used and tired, the rooms tend to follow suit, but all areas are cleaned daily as are the rooms.
To sum up Travelodge copy in need of a bit of TLC.

“Nothing special”

We had booked for two nights but they had "lost" our booking & were full on the Saturday for a wedding. Reception staff were very unhelpful. In the end one night was enough! Behind the once attractive front is a standard boxy modern motel with a view over a car-park & a derelict building. Our room was like a sauna even with the window left open all night-no air conditioning. Room doors banged all night with late returning wedding guests.

“Adequate, for a few nights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2005

Adequate Hotel, I stayed for 2 nights (coming from Italy). The room (a double one, number 110 at the enf of the corridor) was spacious, clean and quiet, though a bit cold (0 degrees outsise).
Bathroom also was Ok.
I have found friendly staff, though the very young girls at the reception probably should do something else than working.
Interesting the possibility to do the "fast check-out" just dropping the keys and go. Actually I did the traditional check out, and it took one minute (also because, as usual, the young girls at the reception had something else to do).
Good location, walking distance to Old Harlow town centre (about 5 minutes).
Good restaurant as well, considering it's a Hotel one.

On the negative side, some smoking smell on corridors, and, above all for me, NO internet at all. I tried to ask to the young girst at the receptions and they said there were just dial access from the room, but obviously they were just repeating a story - they have no idea whatsoever of what Internet, dial-up, modem, broadband etc. are.

Overall, for a few nights it's fine.
