“Very Good and Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We had a mid week stay here this month.
The hotel looked as if it had been recently refurbished, our room was large and very clean with a new bathroom which was a good size.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were shown to our room and shown how the shower, mirror light in the bathroom and TV and free view box worked.
We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening, but we had a drink in the bar where it was warm and welcoming. The owner chatted and made us feel very welcome. They knew that we had plans for the next day and we were offered an early breakfast if required.
We didn't sleep particularly well as the bed was a bit soft and we kept rolling towards the centre, probably due to the very uneven floor in the room.
Breakfast was excellent with a good choice. Mushroom omelette was particularly good.
Overall very good with the exception of the bed - new mattress & a bit of levelling required?

“Fab, friendly and incredibly considerate at a difficult time for us.”

Having been blown away by several incredible meals and wonderful service in the past, we decided to book a room when we had to travel up to Scotland prior to Christmas to visit a sick relative. We stayed with our two girls for two nights in the family suite- hardly a suite - more like a generous 2 bedroomed appartment, complete with huge bathroom and separate sitting room! It was clean, comfortable and just perfect for us. As before, every meal we had was delicious and the service absolutely second to none. Anthony and Shona, the young owners, run a slick operation with just the right personal touch. We wish them every success and will definitely be booking in again on our next visit to Scotland. Highly recommend!!!

“Nothing was too much trouble”

We stayed two nights at the Kirklands and we were bowled over by the warm and friendly welcome that we received. Our room was large and comfortable with the best hotel bed we have slept in since the Intercontinental in Singapore. Nothing was too much trouble for the young proprietors and every request was met with a cheerful willingness to please. The food was excellent, plentiful and very reasonably priced. I always try to be objective when giving a review and if there is one negative comment that I would make it is that some of the decor is looking a little tired, but not in the bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms which were refurbished in 2010.

“Great service, amazing food!!”

Visited the hotel for lunch today with my friend who is a local. We were warmly greeted by staff and shown through to the restaurant. We both had sweet potato soup to start which was yummy, the waiter also brought out a mountain of bread with it!!

For my main course I had the fish pie which was delicious and also a massive portion (won't be having any dinner tonight that's for certain!). My friend had the steak ciabatta which she polished off. Prices were reasonable too!! Will definitely be back!

“Excellent Food and Accomodation”

Stayed here one night on business. Recieved a very warm welcome from the young management team. The rooms are clean and large. I booked a single and got a large room with a double and a single bed in it. The food was excellent and a good sign was that it was well frequented by locals. Good location in the centre of the town and just two minutes away from the motorway
