“Wish this had been our first stop, not the last”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Hands down the best place we stayed during 3 weeks in northern Scotland. The Location was charming and the hostess even more so. Our room in the old part of the farmhouse very comfortable, but the very best was breakfast! We were the only ones staying there at the time; came down to find the fire burning, James Galway playing on the CD and food enough for several invading armies. 3 or 4 kinds of homemade jams, breads, juices, coffee, eggs which Helen identified by the chicken they came from.... the list goes on!
If we had found this place on our first night we might have been tempted to just stay there for the whole time. Felt like home from the moment we stepped in and we will return "someday".

Dear Carol,
Thank you for your kind words which are really appreciated. We are so glad that you and Jim enjoyed your stay with us..
We've added to the hen collection and now have Harris, and his ladies- Islay & Iona. Scotch Dumpies with very short legs. Good layers and Harris is very handsome. We now have a range of egg colours ranging from dark brown to pale blues and greens- we've put a photo on the page.
The home-made jams and marmalades are very popular- the favourite is the Mulled Rum Marmalade, followed by our raspberry jam. We are ready to make our next maramalade batch which we do with the new seasons Seville oranges available in January

“Simply the Best!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Dalquiech farmhouse is the best kept secret in Scotland and the selfish part of me wants to keep it that way. This is without doubt the best B & B we have ever stayed in and believe me we've tried a few. The rooms are clean and tidy and the beds are so comfortable that you could stay in bed for a week. There's a constant top up of biscuits and chocolates and you get fresh milk for your tea & coffee as well as a choice of still and sparkling water. The breakfasts are to die for. So much choice, so plentiful and so tasty that you won't need to eat again until the evening. If you decide to have an evening meal you won't be disappointed, the meals are as good anything you will get in a restaurant. But what make's this bed & breakfast stand out from the rest are the hosts Helen and Bob. Not only do you receive the warmest of welcomes but with their wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area they are able to give you plenty of ideas to keep you entertained during your break. Nothing is too much trouble for Bob and Helen and they go out of their way make sure you have an enjoyable and relaxing stay. We have been regulars for four years and will be back as soon as we can.

Tim,
Thank you for the review, it's really encouraging to know you have enjoyed your stays. We have great memories of your trips and hope you keep visiting-we love to hear your news.
You may be pleased to hear that we are improving the lighting up the drive and to the house- the star gazing is really good as its so dark here through winter nights but we need to upgrade the solar powered lighting to something more powerful.
We're getting it done over the Christmas holidays so you'll see a big difference by the next time you visit.
I'll also let you know the timing for the next Alloa beer Festival in May - always worth a trip if you're up around then, and the range is always increasing with new micro-breweries setting up all the time. The Edinburgh Beer Festival is on 28th -30th June, but there is no date yet on the CAMRA website for Alloa.
As I retire at the end of the year, I will have more time and will certainly try to go to both- Helen can drive!!

“It´s a place in paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Twenty years past I stayes at Dalqueich Farmhouse the very first time. And over the years I came back as often as possible - because this place and this family is ever so special. I don´t think there is any better place to stay. If you have the chance to visit Scotland - this is the one and only perfect accomodation you will be able to find. Helen and Bob make you to feel at home from the first second on. Explore the area of Edinburgh as well as the wonderfull Highlands and find yourself a cosy, warm and ever so cheerfull and friendly home at night.
If you have the chance to book with dinner - please do so. My poor English is definately not enough to describe this unique place. I can´t wait to come up again next year in May! Thank you Helen, Bob and of course Bertie ! Christoph

Christoph, Thanks for your kind comments. As I'm retiring we hope to make more of our small B&B business, but want to keep it as friendly and personal as we can.
We are looking forward to seeing you in May- the Kinross half marathon is a really scenic one as it goes all round Loch Leven. I ran it myself a few years ago, but next year we will just cheer you on!! I found the hill up from Scotlandwell hard work!
In June the Olympic tourch goes through Milnathort, Kinross and Crook of Devon, so we expect a lot of sporting interest then.
Bob

“Best B&B I've stayed in!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This is no ordinary B&B. It felt like I was staying with old friends from the moment I arrived. Helen & Bob are a lovely couple and their dog Bertie is very friendly too! They really go all out to make your stay as comfortable as possible and nothing is too much trouble. Great hospitality! The whole house is spotlessly clean with a cosy feel. Delicious food and wine not to mention the cheese! Great big comfy bed and awesome shower. I loved breakfast so much I left with a box of eggs laid by their very own chickens! There really is nothing but good things to say about this beautiful farm house. I was made to feel very welcome! Thank you! See you again soon!

Gillian, So glad that you enjoyed thestay. Others have liked the showers as well - when the house was upgraded we installed a pressurised water system - that means you get a real power shower-not just a miserable trickle!
The hens are still laying so I recently posted a picture of Fred, FI-FI and Frou Frou on the site-they are small but cute. Our new Scottish Dumpies -a really rare breed, have now settled in well and are still laying, despite the dark nights!
Bertie sends love and licks!

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

I absolutely loved my stay at this B&B that I have returned to on several occasions. We received a very warm welcome from both the owners, Helen and Rob. The bedrooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. The food was delightful with the breakfast made to order with fresh ingredients. The house is set in a peaceful and relaxing area. This place is not to be missed! Highly recommended.

Thanks for the kind review, you comments mean a lot, especially as you come from such a beatiful area of England- years since we 've been to almouth, and its a lovely area. As we've only recently registered with tripadvisor it's good to see we're getting comments already. Do hope we'll see you again this summer. Helen & Bob
