I visit the Shetland three-four times per year for work purposes.
Having stayed in the majority of Hotels the Island has to offer, I spoke to a local colleague suggesting that I had not found an accommodation which I found particularly welcoming/ clean etc. (Astonishing considering the price of each hotel)
The Alder Lodge Guest House was advised to myself by various people and although I generally refrain from staying anywhere other than a hotel I thought I would have a look around the facility.
On arrival Karen + Keith (Guest House Owners) welcomed me into the Alder Lodge and gave me the opportunity to look around the vacant rooms.
I could not believe the quality of the rooms! They are far superior and much cleaner than any of the hotels I had previously stayed in. Considering the price pppn was almost half of the hotels I felt that I had finally found an accommodation which I could continue to use for all return journeys.
I stayed throughout December 2011. It was suggested to myself by the travel company which make my reservations that I would have to go to the Sumburgh Hotel between the 24-26th as the Guesthouse was not available for bookings over the Christmas period. However, Karen + Keith gave me the opportunity to stay in their personal property between these dates as family and friends where staying in the guesthouse for Christmas.
The level of service provided is fantastic; Karen + Keith go above and beyond to make their customers stay comfortable and enjoyable. The breakfast is exceptional, facilities are superb and they have a very personable approach to running the guest house.
I would advise anyone looking to visit the Shetland Islands to give them a call, I will certainly be returning for all future visits!!!
