What a dump! This guest house has overpriced rooms (probably because of the supply/demand problem in Lerwick), the proprietor was facetious, the place was full of the smell of Thai cooking. Our room was clean but,even in June near the solstice, was cold and dark. The walls were paper thin so that we could easily hear the conversation in the room next door, (unfortunately for us there was a young baby next to us!) The bed was lumpy, our sheet was torn, the shower kept going cold on us,the towels were old and a bit smelly, the plastic "glasses" were scratched, one leaked! (We threw it in the bin and later that day it was "washed" and back on the shelf - we knew it was the same one because it still leaked!) At breakfast the bacon had been cooked for hours with plates swimming in grease. On a bright note the Irish waitress at breakfast was delightful!

I have been coming to the Glen Orchy for 9 years now. I stayed at the Glen orchy from 23rd to 30th April this year. The staff were great and the owner a pleasure talk to. I had a problem with my room and this was dealt with immediately. I cannot recommend this place enough.
The restaurant offers authentic thai cuisine, made by thai chefs.

This guest House has it all, friendy staff who work hard to ensure you enjoy your time there.

The room while not overly large are well decorated and the beds clean and comfortable'.


Breakfast is cooked to order with lots of choice of fresh fruit, cereal etc.Ther eis also the bonus of a-having a Thai Restaurant as well so if you don't feel like eating out you can get a nice meal.

Thoroughly enjoyed staying here for 5 nights, the staff were all very friendly and incredibly helpful. The owner gave me a lift into lerwick centre couple of times rather than paying for a cab, you don't get much more helpful than that and I recall on one evening him giving a guest free use of his phone when the mobile network wasn't working. My colleagues were staying in the Shetland Hotel at over £100 per night and they were less than happy with the service, the Glen Orchy is half the price and excellent value. The Restaurant serves authentic Thai food, not perhaps what you expect but I found their curries were superb and there are plenty places to eat out if you don't like Thai. The morning breakfast is massive, and add to that all the Coffee and Orange Juice you get and you're fueled with enough calories for the day. I highly recommend this as your hub if you're ever luck enough to visit Shetland.
