I was at this hotel in October on business. First impressions were not fantastic as the exterior of the hotel is not too inviting.
On entering the main reception and bar area you could instantly tell that the hotel was tired and in need of a major overhall, the windows in bar area were covered in condensation and dirty so dirty on the outside that it was a struggle to see out of them onto the view...... of the industrial dock side of Lerwick. The leather seats in lounge were tired and could again do with upgrading.
The room was clean but again the decor was in a bit of a time warp and could do with upgrading (as per my taste). There was a flat screen tv and tea coffee making facilities in room.
The room was clean and cleaned to a good standard every day.
Bed was a bit soft.
The bathroom looked as if it has recenty been refurbished so hopefully this is a sign of things to come for the rooms and public area, one of my colleagues stayed in a room on upper floor and said his room looked as if it had been updated recently throughout.
The food..... we all found to be very good. We all ordered steaks on the first night and despite some of the negative reviews found the food to be of pretty good quality. I had the ribs which were lovely and meaty but a bit disappointed with the BBQ sauce which lacked taste. The steak following on was cooked to perfection (for all in our party). We enjoyed it so much that we all ate in hotel on our second night stay.
The hotel is situated a 10 min walk from centre of town.
Would I stay again... wasnt put off but would like to see it modernised inside (not a lot can be done with outside).
Breakfast was very good also.
Service was good throughout stay.
