I did not stay in the hotel, but ate in the restaurant for several evenings. It was very busy each night and booking was essential. The meals were superb, though the service was not perfect. It took a long time and the staff were not really silver service e.g.did not clear away unwanted cutlery or glasses. It also took a long time to eat - but the food was superb. The chef has created a number of excellent dishes which are all reasonably priced. I ate hake which was very fresh and excellently presented. The only complaint is that there were too many potatoes served. The restaurant was certainly the best in terms of choice and quality in Kirkwall.
