This is a wonderful Scottish experience. First of all, the hotel is a victorian stone style. Two large stone lions greet you at the front step, one marked "stanley" the other "livingstone", I assume to commemorate the famous 19th century meeting of the two explorers. The place is very clean and accommodating. The people are genuinely nice in the area. I am running out of battery power at this point. But I highly recommend this place. I will stay here if I have another chance to visit scotland.

We live local and we were not staying over at the Somerton, this review is purely aimed at the food. 4 of us attended, my wife and her parents and the meal was 1st class, we each had 3 courses and each dish was superb.

I had a steak with a blue cheese sauce, by gum it was good! Blueberry Cheesecake, oh yes!

Very friendly staff, fantastic meal, get yourself there and eat like a king.

We booked a "family" room and found the additional bed totally unacceptable. The bed was a cheap blow up bed which deflated in the night and my 10year old daughter ended up in bed with us ! In the morning at breakfast we reported the bed situation to the male member of staff who was watching match of the day and his response was dismissive.
We paid the bill and no reduction was offered or apology for the lack of a suitable bed. Later we emailed the manager and never received a response.
However the sleeping arrangements didn't detract from the excellent wedding function we attended . The food was great but the bed was poor. I think an inflatable bed is totally unacceptable. Be warned if booking this hotel check out what type of additional bed is being offered or take a foot pump for night time deflation !

We recently returned to this hotel after 12 years, as we had our wedding meal and stayed there after getting hitched in Gretna all those years ago. The place has not changed and we received a warm welcome when we arrived. A lovely size big room with a huge bed. Bed a little to soft for me but everyone is different. Pleasant and friendly staff who were there if we needed them. Food and breakfasts are nice and a good selection on the menu. Room was nice & clean with hot shower. It was a pleasant stay.
