“Very Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

I've stayed at this hotel a few times now. On the way to and from Scotlland its the ideal place to stopover. Particularly as it makes the long journey, at short hop the next day inot Glasgow or Edinburgh. Location isn't everything of course but when you combine this with a pleasent position in the countryside just 5 minutes off the motorway, a little bit of character combined with all of the expected features of a modern business hotel, it hits the mark. The staff are all freiendly and helpful and efficient with a genuine warmth. My only criticism, if there is one, is that the menu needs a bit more variety, and they do run of of things on the menu. Minor points, nearly made up for by the excellent freshly cooked breakfasts.. Whenever I have stayed it never seems to be crowded, and its a mystery to me why this hotel is not more popular than it is.

“Good at weddings! But ask for a room with a proper double bed!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We stayed for a wedding, and the hotel was very well geared up to cope with a large party.

Food was fabulous, and staff very friendly & helpful. Nice quiet location very accessible from main routes.

Only negative was the bed sizes, with others in the party with the same comment: beds weren't doubles but 3/4 at the most so fine for single occupancy but at £110 at night you'd at least hope for a good nights sleep!

“Friendly staff and lovely food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

I and my new wife have just held our wedding dinner at this hotel. Many of the guests from the wedding stayed in the hotel and me and my wife spent the evening before the wedding (my birthday) and the wedding night in the hotel. Check in for us was simple and hassle free. We were in our rooms by 2pm and check in wasn't meant to be until 3pm. The room my wife had for the first night was a suite and it was very well presented. It came with a nice big bathroom and two televisions as well as a door leading to an outside terrace overlooking countryside. I was in a different room as the wedding day was the next day. I was very impressed with my room. It had everything you would expect and more. I did enjoy the fact the room had a small terrace outside. We had a meal in the hotel for around 20 people on the evening of my birthday and while the menu was fairly small it was diverse and the food was 5 star food. It was absolutely delicious. I don't think one of the guests from that evening complained about their food at all. We spent some time in the bar which is fairly small but stocks a nice variety of drinks. The only problem with the bar was that it wasn't always staffed. We found ourselves having to pop round to reception to ask if someone could serve us. This wasn't the case on an evening and was more so on an afternoon and with this being a wedding... alcohol was being consumed from fairly early to fairly early. On the evening of our wedding a small party of guests including me, my new wife, her father, my new brother in law and his other half and a few friends were in the bar and we all have nothing but praise for the barman Eddie (Edward). He put up with us for quite some time and I think we were all in a jovial drunken state.

A few guests did have small complaints but as far as I am aware the hotel staff did absolutely everything to put them right. Me and my wife will be coming back to this hotel and I have heard other guests from our party say the same. What a gorgeous place and friendly staff who were fantastic! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was partly down to the long waits at the bar and the fact the batteries in my room TV remote were dead, I also think a few guests ordered papers but never got them however they were refunded. Also we were told of another guest’s complaint about other guests shouting in the corridor. I am sure other guests were similar but it perhaps could have been communicated to us slightly differently, we did feel awkward about this. None of our party was inappropriately noisy and the complaint came in the afternoon when you would expect other guests to be talking in corridors, which were quite thin/small. Finally the location was fantastic the only other drawback was the constant ache of traffic from the nearby motorway, this obviously is out the hotels hands but without this noise the location would be absoloutly 5 star! You couldn't hear it from inside the hotel but outside it was audible.

Overall a very pleasant experience and when we go back I am sure we will be giving this place 5 stars!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms appeared to be better
