No-one in reception. Was probably quite Grand in it's day but now in pretty poor condition. In a word: Grubby. Heating took several hours to warm the room though the bed was surprisingly comfortable. No heating at all in the bathroom. Sink tap loose; didn't use the shower. Parking & breakfast OK.

It was cheap, so only adequate if your budget is inflexible. Location is the hotel's only redeeming feature. I won't stay here again & my advice is pay £30 more & go elsewhere.

We`ve stayed at the Great Central Hotel twice because it`s very convenient for the Great Central Railway and its excellent dining trains. I also like its GCR history and it does still have a bit of that style, though I`d be the first to admit it needs a lot of money spending on it to do the place justice.
The first time we stayed there it was very poor, even the bed sheets looked as if they hadn`t been changed. But we went back because the only other place we could find open at New Year was the Ramada. That is a nice place but right next to a few loud nightclubs, so we went back to the Great Central Hotel and took our own bedclothes just in case though we didn`t actually need them in the end ! The fact that it appears to have changed hands is probably significant.
The breakfast is nothing special but it was edible and better than it was before.
Importantly for us, it`s quiet.
We`d go there again, in fact we`re actually planning to, but the place could be really something special if enough money was spent on it. It`d put the price up but we`d be happy to pay a bit more for a nicer place

First time working in Loughborough and to be honest not a lot to offer. The hotel was in a poor state, Booked a twin room and got a double, Bloke at bar was spot on and got it sorted as they just split the bed in two and moved a table. Room NO HEATING ON but had a small convector heater with one leg off!!!, Very basic, Tv only had 5 chans, Bathroom was grotty and did not fancy risking the shower. £50 very expensive for not a lot. Breakfast was kind of ok but you need to do a lot of walking, Toaster on a table so you need to make your own, asked for coffee and was told machine round corner!!!

In a nutshell, Very Poor - Hotel 1/5, lad at bar 5/5, room (keep it locked), breakfast ok. My advice get a B&B it will be cleaner, far cheaper and they may have some heating on. Working back in area soon and the NOT SO GREAT but was nearly Central will be the last place I will be staying in.

We arrived for a two night stay. Nobody on reception. Had to attract someone's attention from the bar.

Our first room was acceptable. It had the basics. Everything was fine until we went to bed. Within 45 minutes of being asleep we were awoken by water pouring through the ceiling (we were only on the first floor).

Went down to the bar and again got somebody's attention. He came and saw the water and said he would move us. The room we were moved to was apalling. It was smaller than the previous one. The bathroom did not have a proper door on it, in fact it was a louvre door off of a wardrobe! There was no fan in the bathroom and the drains smelt of rotten eggs!

We endured one night but had already decided to check out. Breakfast consisted of two sliced loaves of bread, still in their packets, a grotty toaster. All drinks apart from milk and fruit juice were out of a machine. We did not even venture into having a cooked breakfast. We paid for the night and checked out and went back to another guest house we had stayed at before.

Both of these rooms, according to other people's pictures were the refurbished ones. I would hate to see the un-refurbished ones!

The only reason we chose the Great Central Hotel in the first place was because of its close proximity to the Great Central Railway where we were dining.

We would never entertain this hotel ever again.
