“Pleasant hotel”

I'd heard this was the best hotel in Lowestoft and from what I have seen of Lowestoft I would probably agree. The hotel itself is located in a quiet area away from the centre and overlooks the beach. I had a double room which was clean and spacious - I received room service on each of the 3 days of my stay. The floorboards creak a lot and the pigeons can be a little noisy on the windowsill but other than that I can't complain. The bar was well stocked and had a nice area for sitting in. My only complaint here is that later in the evening it was difficult to locate staff to serve me a drink - on one occasion I left and went to bed instead. Prices were reasonable and the bar food was good. The restaurant was nothing special, the menu looks impressive but the food was definitley not worth the prices charged. Although I had no issues with the food myself, several of my colleagues were unhappy with the quality and some even sent food back. I would recommend sticking with the bar food. Breakfast was good with lots of choice, my only complaint is that there appeared to be only 1 member of staff waiting on tables on all 3 mornings and it sometimes took a while to be served if wanting to order hot food.
In all, I would stay here again for business but not for leisure - not that I would visit Lowestoft for leisure mind!

Room Tip: Ask for a double room rather than risk being given a small single room - I've heard they were ti...

The room was very nice and spacious with a sea view. Aged but very well kept. No noise at night.
The bed was aged but ok.
The breakfast in the hotel was very, very good. Cooked to order and the service was very, very good.
Lovely area to walk on the promenade between the hotel and the sea.
All interface with reception was great and they were of great assistance in every request I had.
Would definitely return.

“A Pleasant Stay”

We went for a family party and were not dissapointed with the hotel. Room was a sea view with small balcony. Very clean and a comfortable bed. Some noise from a wedding disco but had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was very good and with 14 in the party service was better than expected.

“Good but not excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Had a business trip in Lowestoft so used Tripadvisor to find a hotel in the area. This hotel came highly recommended so I decided to give it a go.

I stayed in room 301. Quite small and comprised of 2 single beds (I have attached photographs). Great view of the sea, though as it is sea-facing, quite windy as well. The double glazed windows did a good job of keeping the noises down though. The room is quite charming. If you are a late riser, and are given this room, ask to be moved as the lift chime and people traffic can be heard from the room. There was a strange green vinyl type covering in the bathrooms though and this looked a bit dirty. This spoils the otherwise upmarket appeal of the room.

The positives:
Modern and quality furnishings with a bit of old charm
Large guest parking bays located in front of the hotel
Big 32inch LCD tvs in the rooms
Good quality hotel food

The negatives:
Small rooms
Lack of attention by staff
Price of hotel rooms

I will elaborate on the lack of attention by staff.

The staff were friendly on check-in and general items. I reported that my bath was permanently set to the showerhead and that the bath plug did not work the morning after the first night. The receptionist said that she would have the maintenance man look into this. When I returned to the hotel in the evening, they had replaced the bath plug with a normal stopper instead of fixing it. No problem there for me. However, the shower/tap release was still stuck in the shower position. Now I do understand that it could be that they needed a part or there was a bigger fix necessary but if anyone would have just let me know, I would not have minded.

The kettle also still had water in it from the previous guests.

I also have a minor gripe about breakfast. When I got to the restaurant, there was only one person handling the tables who didn't seem to notice me. So I stood around the front desk for about 5 minutes without any service. I then walked to her and asked her about breakfast. From there the service was good and the actual breakfast was quite delicious and made to order.

It's just these little things that would easily move this from good to excellent.

Overall, the hotel was good and I wouldn't mind staying there again. Though, if it was my own money, I may look for a bed and breakfast rather than spending Marriott Hotel or Sheraton Hotel money for this accommodation.

Room Tip: Ask for 301 if you love sea views. Don't, if you are a late morning riser.

“superb would go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

My first impression on the hotel was very "posh" compaired to some hotels i have stayed in. the reception area was nice and clean, and i feel that is important so you know every where else in the hotel will be clean. This hotel is on the sea front but I had a street view but was not to bothered, as the rooms have double glazing and you can't here the traffic. The rooms have tea and coffee facillities as well as biscuts, large enough flat screen tv with freeview, it's warm and comfortable.

In the bar area you have a choice of either bar meals which was well worth the price or in the resteraunt, you have a good choice and selection. The staff i found very friendly and accommodating.

Breakfast you have continental or cooked all brought to you nice and hot.
Overall I had a good 3 nights.

Room Tip: room 308 on the 3rd floor nice and sunny all day
