“Lovely Hotel with attentive staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I booked this hotel for a birthday treat for my husband. Our package included afternoon tea, evening dinner and breakfast.
We unfortunately did not manage to park in one of the coveted hotel parking spaces as there was a wedding taking place on the same evening but I was aware of the £5.00 charge in the public car park covering the period of our stay so this wasn't too inconvenient.
The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful in giving directions of nearby places of interest.
Our room, Number12, was in the newer part of the hotel and was fairly small. I was a little disappointed with the standard of furniture which did look a bit tired but everything was clean and tidy. Lighting could have been better with none at all in the entrance area, and because our room appeared to be a twin room (2 single beds pushed together) turned into a double, the bedside lights were oddly placed. The radiator didn't work and we reported this twice but no-one appeared to rectify this. We did use the a/c heating instead and this was very effective.
We took afternoon tea in the snug area off reception as the conservatory was used for the wedding. I think 'afternoon teas should really read as cream tea' as this included choice of tea/coffee with scones ,clotted cream and jam. Very nice although I think we were forgotten about as we were the only ones having this and the rest of the staff were attending to the wedding party.
Our evening meal was served in the seafood restaurant, again as the wedding was taking place in the bistro area, but we again had been informed of this prior to booking. We were the only diners that night so certainly had personal service although this did mean the atmosphere was lacking. However the food was exquisite and service perfectly timed.
Breakfast was lovely with an extensive range of hot and cold food.
Overall I would recommend this hotel. If we do return I would book one of the Georgian rooms to see how they compare to the Garden rooms. The staff are to be congratulated on their professional attitude while making guests feel very welcomed.

“Bed Linen Horror”

We stayed at this hotel for a 1 night stay following a review in our local paper. On arrival we thought that we had picked a winner. The room we were shown to was a standard garden view room and whilst relatively small it was fine for 1 night. After unpacking we decided to go downstairs for afternoon tea. We sat at the only table available which was dirty thinking that someone would come to clear it soon. We waited at least 15 minutes before a waitress came to the table to clear the mess. We had to ask to see the menu and also if we could order. The service was appalling the only saviour was the tea itself which was very nice indeed. We then decided to go into the bar to have a glass of wine before getting ready to go out for the evening. There was no one behind the bar so we pressed the bell as directed but no one came and after ringing a couple of times and waiting about 5 - 10 minutes we gave up. We went upstairs to our room to get ready for our evening out. The rooms which are obviously in an extension do not seem to have any sound proofing at all - to say that I felt like I was in the bath with the man next door was an understatement! We could hear everything from next door to the point of embarrassment. We phoned and asked if we could be moved and was told that a ground floor room was available. It was no better a room than the one we were in but much quieter so we moved. This was obviously a dog friendly room as it had laminate flooring. We went out for the evening and did not really pay any attention to the bed until we were about to retire. OMG what a disappointment. I have never encountered such low quality bed linen in any hotel I have ever stayed in, even in low cost budget options. The quality of the pillows and duvet was appalling not even filling the covers that surrounded them. For the cost of the room I would have expected a certain quality. This really lets the hotel down. If this is what is in every room then I cannot understand why no one has mentioned it before. I have never had such a sleepless night due to the quality of the pillows. It is such a nice looking hotel in a good position and the food quality was excellent but it is let down by such awful quality in something which is so important to your quality of sleep. This is the first time I have felt compelled to complain and write a review but I felt I had to say something. The reception staff were very friendly and the breakfast staff also. The food again at breakfast was delicious which just makes the problem with the bedding seem so out of character.

“Would highly recommend”

what a fantastic hotel. We booked an overnight stay to include afternoonm tea on arrival, then dinner bed and breakfast. From the moment we entered the hotel till the moment we left the service was superb, the food first class, the rooms beautiful, and the staff there could teach everyone in a service industry what customer service is all about. If you are staying either in lymington or the New Forest, look no further than this hotel.

“Our special day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

When looking for our wedding venue we knew exactly what we wanted- nothing that we'll be paying off for years to come, not a big chain hotel but something special to us. And we certainly had that at Stanwell House!

From our first visit to the hotel (a wet dark evening) we knew there was only one place we'd be getting married. Both Annette and Lucy were amazing- calmly replying to the many emails sent, giving advice and help where needed. The food was amazing, the chief did an amazing job and all our guests came away full! We were very lucky with a sunny day, which only added the lovely venue as we were able to enjoy the garden!!

Asked recently If we'd change anything about our day, I said absolutely nothing. The staff did over and above what they needed to do in making our special day special. I wld highly recommend anyone having a wedding to have it at Stanwell.

Stayed at Stanwell house last Monday for business. The standard never changed, very high quality overall. Nothing to fault and believe me I have stayed in planty of hotels in my life.
Restaurant food is beautifull and top mention to the lady who runs breakfast.
