“More like walking the plank”

My two nieces from Japan booked a twin room on the internet for two nights from 6th January. After a 13 hour flight and their aunt's funeral and wake we arrived at the pub at 5pm to be told by the barman that there were no twins available but they could share the double bed or he would put a mattress on the floor.
There were no lights on the stairs to the room, and no attempt was made to book them in on arrival. The room itself was shabby and dated. There appears to be no residents lounge and the bar area was crowded with male drinkers.
I was not happy with this arrangement and booked them into a lovely twin bedded room at the Stanwell House Hotel around the corner. Despite the lack of twin bedded accommodation and the fact that the room was not used at all the barman at the Bosuns Chair insisted on payment in full for the 2 nights (£140, without breakfasts). What a welcome to England!

“Roomy, conveniently located, very pleasant stay”

The rooms are on two floors above a delightful pub on a quiet street just 100 meters or so from the rail station. Our room was one of the most spacious that we've had traveling in the UK -- well appointed and clean, with a sofa, desk, solid bed and roomy bathroom. The staff was helpful and friendly; dinner in the pub was excellent and the breakfast was very well prepared (with as much "brown bread" as one could eat -- the server kept returning to offer it to the tables so frequently that we thought that we might have been in a Monty Python sketch!). It was just a five-minute walk to the High Street and the Quay. Our stay was very comfortable and enjoyable, and if we return to Lymington we will certainly stay there again.

“Completely outstanding in all respects”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Extremely efficient booking made on the telephone which is where the good vibes started. Made very welcome on arrival; nothing was too much trouble. Room was comfortable, well-appointed, clean, and warm with an attractive little ensuite bathroom. Hosts Russell and Kelly are attentive but not intrusive. Russell is charming and obliging to a fault; Kelly cannot do enough to ensure a relaxing stay. Breakfast is a real treat served by the chef himself - a man of many talents - and is both beautifully presented and delicious. I can't wait to visit again and would not dream of staying anywhere else in Lymington.

“"Fabulous Stay"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

The owners Russ @ Kelly and staff, made us very welcome on arrival and throughout our 4 night stay, the room was spotlessly clean, the view onto the beer garden from bedroom window absolutley wonderful, can,t wait to go back hope to get the same bedroom. So handy for the town and the Quay just a few minutes walk, would definitley recommend the Bosuns Chair for a short break "FANTASTIC" Thanks for making our stay so welcome luv from Mari and Trev xx
