My two nieces from Japan booked a twin room on the internet for two nights from 6th January. After a 13 hour flight and their aunt's funeral and wake we arrived at the pub at 5pm to be told by the barman that there were no twins available but they could share the double bed or he would put a mattress on the floor.
There were no lights on the stairs to the room, and no attempt was made to book them in on arrival. The room itself was shabby and dated. There appears to be no residents lounge and the bar area was crowded with male drinkers.
I was not happy with this arrangement and booked them into a lovely twin bedded room at the Stanwell House Hotel around the corner. Despite the lack of twin bedded accommodation and the fact that the room was not used at all the barman at the Bosuns Chair insisted on payment in full for the 2 nights (£140, without breakfasts). What a welcome to England!
