“Shabby in need of a refurb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This is the 3rd time I have visited the venue to attend a conference and sadly the place as deteriorated at quite a rapid rate. The rooms are looking very tired and the silicone sealant on my bath was actually hanging off, this could not have been missed by the housekeeping staff, so sadly this shows little care for the venue. One of my colleagues had a broken basin and a cheap piece of laminate had been fitted on part of the room where obviously the carpet had become unusable. The quality of the food has also deteriorated, although breakfast was of very enjoyable. The selection of food was limited, carrots were obvioulsy on special offer this week as they were served with very meal (I was expecting to see carrot juice on the menu for breakfast. Deserts had limited choice and were repeated on every meal.
The lift to our rooms was broken but the exercise would have done me good. As you would expect with a De Vere hotel drink prices were very expensive but sadly the hotel does not live up to the De vere branding. I am glad that I hadn't responded to one of De Veres numeroous promotions and visited this as a pleasure trip as I would have been horribly disappointed.

Room Tip: All rooms are very small, even though they have a double bed they are really singles

Dear Madam,

I would like to thank you for your comments following your most recent stay with us. Your observations are most welcome and will be used to improve the experiences of the guests who stay with us.

I would like to take a moment to comment on the observations you have made. The bedroom sizes are small with a double bed incased on three sides, this has never changed and I am unable to make the rooms any larger.

We have managed a local mini refurbishment programe and the bedroom you stayed in has been improved in the decor, new 26" lcds tvs, new beds, new curtains and artwork. Unfortunatley the works have not extended to the bathroom for which i personally apologise.

All the conference rooms have been upgraded and the main room your association used has been totally renovated.

Opinions are subjective and on this occassion we have made a tremendous effort to improve the quality of the product within the resources i have available on a local level.

The feedback from the main organiser of the event you attended was very positive and I regret that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occassion.

Once again many thanks for your feedback.

Wishing you all the very best,

“well worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

we have stayed at the De Vere Harben on several occassions is it is quite close to the Silverstone circuit and to be honest every time we have stayed there it has been good.

The rooms are a bit on the small side for two people but it does state that they are really for singe occupancy, so we don,t have a problem with that.

The hotel itself does not have the land that usually the de vere properties have but that does'nt bother us.

The staff and service that we recieve is first class from the check in to the check out.Housekeeping always said good morning to you as you walk down to breakfast.

Breakfast is good, there is plenty available on the buffet and it is was piping hot and tea or coffee was served on arrival.

The coffee lounge is good and was kept clean also there are computers for you to use free of charge.

We basically use the hotel as a base as we spend most of our time at Silverstone during the day when we stay here but we will definatly return in the future.

“An absolute bismal excuse for a hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We travelled as a couple, and were attending my companys awards evening at the venue.
To start with, the room was absolutely tiny. It was no bigger than about 12 foot square, including the bathroom, and the bed felt more like a wooden box with a sheet thrown over it. It was very dated and generally 'tatty'.
The room where our event was held was ok, but around 200 yards from the nearest bar (which charged £25 for a bottle of wine!).
The breakfast in the morning was of the buffet kind. And it was a disaster. They charged £5 per person, but was bearly worth it. We got there at 9am on a Sunday morning and everything was pretty much gone already. Someone who also stayed with us was a vegetarian and allergic to eggs. She was limited to just toast as there was no fruit salad or cereals left. The most expensive toast she's ever paid for, I'm sure.
I would never stay here again, and has put us off the De Vere brand as a whole. We're from Brighton which has the De Vere Grand, and we're incredibly disappointed that standards aren't kept up between the hotels.
Something else to mention; while we were checking out and saying our goodbyes in the reception area, there was a gentleman with his 2 young children rocking and banging (quite loud aswell) on the vending machine to knock crisps out! He succeeded, and his kids went away very happy, and not a word was said to him by the 3 members of staff at the reception desk, 10 yards away from him.
I won't be trusting the De Vere staff with my safety again, that's for sure.

Room Tip: Apparently they are refurbishing the rooms, but I think they're starting at the bottom and worki...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Your feedback as always is most welcome. I can only apologise that we failed to live up to your expectations.

In reponse to the observations you have made i would like the chance to respond. Our bedroom sizes are what they are and we have never hideen this fact, in terms of the way they are sold and the photography on the website and third party distributors.

We are a DeVere Venue and are primary focus is residential training. All our rooms are sold as double rooms for single occupancy and I agree that they are not conducive when two guests are staying.

Our wine prices start from £18.95 per bottle and you can buy more expensie wines if you choose to.

Within the main restaurant there is a bar aswell as the main bar on the ground floor and this is not 200 yards away.

The breakfast choice does allow for all dietray requirements with pastries, porridge, a selection of cereals. I can only apologise if the other items had ran out at the time you came for breakfast.

Feedback is a gift and your comments have been viewed with this in mind and it can only help the team improve the offering we have.

Wishing all the very best as always,

“What on Earth....?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The best bit was the price. Summer Lovin' promotion rates were good at all De Vere Venues, but I would have felt very aggrieved if I had been asked to pay normal rates. The receptionist was good, although it felt like checking in for bypass surgery with the decor in the lobby being reminiscent of a hospital. The room.....oh dear. I had to sleep in the foetal position otherwise my feet would have been outside the window. If I had taken the cat with me, I would have knocked it senseless trying to swing it in the room. The bar area reminded me of the Airport Hotel, Lagos (not the best, as you might imagine). Our party of three were all in agreement.....never again!

Room Tip: Bring a hammer and knock 2 rooms into 1.

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to post a review of DeVere Harben. Your comments are frank and direct.

I can only apologise for our failure to live up to your expectations. Our bedrooms are compact, with standard double beds incased on three sides. Our website photos do show this and we have done nothing to hide this fact.

Your comments about the bar are unfair and everyone's taste is subjective and on this occassion the bar layout and design does not meet your requirements.

Feedback is a gift and it is with this view in mind that i welcome your comments and take them on board.

Wishing you all the very best,
