We travelled as a couple, and were attending my companys awards evening at the venue.
To start with, the room was absolutely tiny. It was no bigger than about 12 foot square, including the bathroom, and the bed felt more like a wooden box with a sheet thrown over it. It was very dated and generally 'tatty'.
The room where our event was held was ok, but around 200 yards from the nearest bar (which charged £25 for a bottle of wine!).
The breakfast in the morning was of the buffet kind. And it was a disaster. They charged £5 per person, but was bearly worth it. We got there at 9am on a Sunday morning and everything was pretty much gone already. Someone who also stayed with us was a vegetarian and allergic to eggs. She was limited to just toast as there was no fruit salad or cereals left. The most expensive toast she's ever paid for, I'm sure.
I would never stay here again, and has put us off the De Vere brand as a whole. We're from Brighton which has the De Vere Grand, and we're incredibly disappointed that standards aren't kept up between the hotels.
Something else to mention; while we were checking out and saying our goodbyes in the reception area, there was a gentleman with his 2 young children rocking and banging (quite loud aswell) on the vending machine to knock crisps out! He succeeded, and his kids went away very happy, and not a word was said to him by the 3 members of staff at the reception desk, 10 yards away from him.
I won't be trusting the De Vere staff with my safety again, that's for sure.
Room Tip: Apparently they are refurbishing the rooms, but I think they're starting at the bottom and worki...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Your feedback as always is most welcome. I can only apologise that we failed to live up to your expectations.
In reponse to the observations you have made i would like the chance to respond. Our bedroom sizes are what they are and we have never hideen this fact, in terms of the way they are sold and the photography on the website and third party distributors.
We are a DeVere Venue and are primary focus is residential training. All our rooms are sold as double rooms for single occupancy and I agree that they are not conducive when two guests are staying.
Our wine prices start from £18.95 per bottle and you can buy more expensie wines if you choose to.
Within the main restaurant there is a bar aswell as the main bar on the ground floor and this is not 200 yards away.
The breakfast choice does allow for all dietray requirements with pastries, porridge, a selection of cereals. I can only apologise if the other items had ran out at the time you came for breakfast.
Feedback is a gift and your comments have been viewed with this in mind and it can only help the team improve the offering we have.
Wishing all the very best as always,
Lasse Högberg
