“superb breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

Despite the fact that Caroline had forgotten we were coming, her welcome was professional and the room was ready. The only problem being that we had booked evening meal with her that she could not longer accomodate as she had not been shopping for us. Mondays did indeed prove difficult to find somewhere to eat, as suspected, in winter months. The room was enormous, however the en-suite was small in comparison, this may be due to the age of the building. Breakfasts, as mentioned by others, were excellent. Caroline was very helpful, and the animals friendly and not obtrusive.

Many thanks for taking the time to review Lea House. As you say, I had neglected to transfer your booking of a few days before, from the computer to the diary - first time in 20 years that has ever happened, and I hope it will be the last.
As you correctly said, fitting en suite bathrooms into 16th centure buildings can be a trial but I am glad you enjoyed the large bedroom.
Mondays can be tricky to find places to eat, especially in the country, but I did point that out and suggest several places that are open and serve excellent food. Unfortunately, just heading out on spec can lead to a less than perfect experience, more is the shame.
Still, I do hope you may be persuaded to come to the area again, and give me another go, and this time I promise I will cook dinner for you.
best wishes

“An excellent B & B”

My husband, sister-in-law and I rounded off our recent 7 week holiday in the UK with a 3 night stay at Lea House. The quality of the rooms and the food was excellent - particularly the dinner the night we arrived and we all voted the breakfasts the best we'd experienced on our trip. Caroline is a wonderful host who makes everyone feel at home and is flexible in meeting everyone's particular needs. She has excellent local knowledge and her recommendations for eating out and sight-seeing were very useful and reliable. She provided a local map for our use which was clearly marked with a variety of local sights. Lea is centrally located and we were able to fit in visits to the Forest of Dean (delightful), took a trip on the Wye River (scenic and enjoyable), Ledbury (excellent Tudor architecture, especially Butcher's Row) and Hereford (the highlight - Mappa Mundi). In all a wonderful 3 days with a wonderful host. We hope we will be able to do it again soon! Lyn Ham

Room Tip: The Granary was very comfortable - good bathroom.

“My favorite B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

This was our 5th stay in 3 years. As always the standard of rooms and meals was excellent
how Caroline is able to offer the range and quality of breakfast choices is amazing.
We have the "Hayloft" room which is situated at the rear of the house. It is roomy, well furnished and extremely comfortable. The village of Lea is well positioned to maximise the various attractions of the area including the beautiful countryside. There are many first class restaurants and good pubs within easy driving distance for an evening meal should you not wish to dine in at Lea house. We are already planning our next visit.

Room Tip: Rear rooms are quieter

“Back for another wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

Second visit in 6 months and my sixth visit overall - that tells you alot by itself!
Another wonderful 4 nights stay, made ever better by the addition of some adorable new members of the family - Jelly Bean the Jack Russell and Cracker the kitten, which join Lilly the existing cat. They added another dimension to our stay as we are great animal lovers.
As always the welcome was warm and genuine from Caroline - the breakfasts up to their usual exceedingly high standard and to top it all we had great weather!
It's central location make Lea House an excellent base for exploring the Forest of Dean and as far afield as Hay on Wye. We are avid walkers so are spoiled for choice when it comes to local stunning countryside walks. We pack alot in to our time away but have no way exhausted what this part of Herefordshire has to offer.
We are already planning our return spring visit in 2012!

“A very pleasant stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011 via mobile

I recently took my husband to the Forest of Dean for a birthday week end. We stayed at Lea House for two nights and had a very pleasant stay there. I was very surprised to read some negative reviews and think they were somewhat unfair. Lea House is a lovely listed building, full quirkiness and character. Caroline keeps it clean and tidy and always has a display of freshly cut flowers in the main guest rooms. The bedrooms are adequate and comfortable and most with ensuit bathrooms which is commendable considering the buildings age. Caroline served us a breakfast of cereals, freshly cooked homemade breads, homemade jams, freshly squeezed orange juice, rich fine coffee and one out of at least a dozen choices of cooked breakfasts. Her mushroom omelette I hasten to add was one of the best omelettes I've ever had. Caroline herself was was friendly and efficient and was very helpful when asked about the area and some of the better walks to take. She also recommended some of the better places to eat in the area. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our week end away and Lea House and Caroline were a big part of the reason why. Thank you Caroline, we will be back.x

Belatedly, thank you for such a generous review. I can't tell you how nice it is to have guests who really enjoy my breakfasts. I think it is one of the most important parts of a good b&b, so it is good to know I succeeded this time.
best wishes
