“Dirty!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights in December and I don't think my room had been cleaned for several months. There was mud on the carpet which had not been hoovered for some time and the bathroom was full of cobwebs, The whole room was dusty and cold - the radiator did not work.
Staff were friendly and breakfast was ok, but I would not stay here again.
Avoid this place at all costs - there are cheaper and cleaner hotels in Worthing.

“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Whoever decided this was three star is having a laugh. I don't think the carpet had ever been hoovered and there was rubble underneath the unit placed conveniently in front of the fireplace. The shower sprayed everywhere except where it should have. Stayed two nights, beds not made and coffee cups not cleaned in that time. Paid for breakfast which was only served until 08.30 a.m. Had no desire to get up that early so missed breakfast each day.The hotel is very tired and appeared to cater for contractors who were working in the area and who obviously wanted an early breakfast. At least the bed linen and towels were clean. Definitely not a place for children!! Wouldn't stay here again if it was free.

Room Tip: Don't bother to book unless you are desperate.

“Worst Hotel I have ever stayed at”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I stayed at the hotel on 6th April 2011, I am very surprised that Joe is even employed there still. I arrived to be met in grubby reception by equally grubby Joe who insisted on addressing me by my christian name. I was shown to my room, I had to repair the toilet cistern before it would work. Although a non smoking hotel I met Joe on going out who was smoking at the front door. I stayed out for a meal and on return the reception and hotel seemed deserted. In the room the TV had only 2 channels and reception was poor, no glass to have a glass of water, no phone to contact reception and no one on reception. I woke at 7.00am to go for breakfast and went down to find 2 other people looking to get access to the breakfast room. I went through the hotel looking for the private rooms to find Joe, everything locked up. By this time there were 7 people on reception and as we had not seen anyone by 8.45am we called the police worried that something had happened to Joe The police arrived as Joe appreared stating he had a had a migraine but I am sure it was too much beer. It was now after 9.00am and we all left being offered £10 to reimbursse us for breakfast . I wrote and made a verbal complaint to the owners whose offices are in Angmering West Sussex, they reimbursed my nights stay but hardly an apology. THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't stay go to another hotel.

“Nice welcome, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Got checked in by the landlord Joe who came down to reception after i'd waited a while in the busy bar [there was football on]. Joe was really friendly and instantly put me at ease as after a long journey I just wanted to get to my room.

Sadly the hotel needs a bit of love. I was in room 1 and the windows were wide open when I got in there. After I closed them I realised why, it had the smell of a person who'd just come back from running a marathon. The floor couldn't have been hoovered either. To add to this decor was worn & dated and the TV buzzed really loudly when it was turned on. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, there was free wifi in the room and there was ample hot water but other than that I wasn't too impressed. The breakfast was ok (cooked buffet, fresh coffee & juice) but as I was late down (I got there 10 mins before it shut) they'd already cleared most of the other stuff away. I've definitely stayed in worse hotels but for £54 i thought it was a little over priced.

The Grand Vic is a big old building that was probably very impressive back in its heyday. Unfortunately it doesn't look like a lot has been done to it since said heyday and until they do it's not a place i'd really recommend. The bar was ill lit & busy when I arrived and it seemed to be a popular with a Wetherspoon type crowd. They have a happy hour from 12pm to 7pm. As for parking - there's no car park to the hotel but there's street parking available so long as (randomly) you don't park between 10am & 11am and between 2pm & 3pm as then it's permit holders only!
