“Cheap, but wouldn't stay again however little it cost.”

Family room was a smoking room, didn't know such things existed any more and was surprised we weren't told when we booked. The SMELL was awful in most parts of the hotel. The room was mouldy, carpet worn fixtures broken and not even any light bulbs when we got there.
Manager was friendly right up untill we complained on checkout at which point his attitude was "Yeah I know it's awful!"
Only good point was it was SO bad it was almost funny.

Thank you for your constructive criticism . I am pleased to say that since your stay our hotel has undergone major renovations under the new ownership of Luke and Emma. The rooms that you speak about have had new carpet put down, new bathrooms put in, we have hired competent staff to deal with the cleaning side of our hotel. We have painted the communal areas and have also installed a floor level bathroom for our elderly guests. I am positive that you will enjoy your stay with us again if you wish to stay here again.

Many thanks.

“Needs a total overhaul”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2010

Knew things would not be great when front of hotel covered with scaffolding and we had booked a sea view room! Room was scruffy and very dusty although the bedding was immaculate. The bathroom bin had not been emptied and the shower curtain covered in black mould. I think the hotel has just been bought by a young chap who we found to be very friendly and I am sure that in a few years it will be restored to what it once was. I just wish we had been warned about the scaffolding etc when we booked. The saving grace of our stay was a magnicient full english breakfast cooked with locally sourced products - could not fault it.

“Hole of C... - would not rate a minus AAA”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

In and out within 5 minutes, after hauling our luggage up and down 3 flights of stairs (not even a dumbwaiter was available). The same reasons as the other reviews (dirt, mould, smell, etc.). Their website says that they were recently renovated (bull-puckies). I had to run over to The Beach Hotel (our favorate, which is suppose to be demolished in 2011) for a room (we could only get one night with them, as they were booked for the Goodwood). I had a meeting with the Mayor of Worthing that afternoon for other reasons, at which I expressed our disappointment. We ended up booking a night at the Travelodge in Lyminster (very nice) and our last 2 nights in The Chatsworth (Very posh and our new favorate - they have the Mira power showers installed). Interesting note - My wife chewed out the owner, after explaining why we wouldn't be staying there (and finding his hotel unexcepatble) and we received our deposit back. He was very interested to know what was needed to be done to fix the problem, but he wasn't rude or angry and neither was the hotel staff. We were walking past the hotel the next day and saw a van being unloaded in front; of artwork, carpet and furnishings. What actually would work is to fully renovate the interior (be very afraid of what might be behaind the walls) and put in an elevator to replace one of the stairwells, lots of paint, new fixtures and updated windows, in my opinion. A wonderful architectual jewel, if 75-100k pounds was put into it. If you are going to stay in this hotel, ask to see the room(s) first, then decide.

“Absolutely awful - worst ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

Checked in and out in 10 minutes - went to 4 rooms and each one had not been cleaned. We were running up and down the (threadbare) stairs. The sheets had not been changed; dirty used towels dumped on the floor, bottles and cans everywhere. The cleaner could not have turned up as there were no clean towels, toilet rolls or tea/coffee. The scruffy tables were covered in tobacco and spilt drinks. The carpets had not been vaccumed as there was dirty tissues and toe nails - yuk! In one room the toilet didn't flush and water was running everywhere.
This hotel is right on Worthing sea front but needs a complete refurbishment. If you have to go to this hotel look at the rooms first before you pay, perhaps we went at a bad time. The manager was very apologetic and gave us our deposit back. Unfortunately every other hotel on the parade was full and we had no where to stay!

“Ottos want to thank Luke”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2010

We have now stayed twice at the Cavendish - and had a very good room, good food and pleasant service on both occasions. We find some of the other reviews very surprising, as Luke could not have been more friendly or eager to be of assistance.
