“Charming place with fabulous beer and food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed here recently to go on the nearby Hook Norton brewery tour (also worth a visit if you're in the area!)
The hotel is in a great location near the main high street, and just near Banbury Cross. Along North Bar St you have a few lovely little restaurants and tea rooms as well. As it happened we didn't really need to sample much outside the hotel, as we pretty much had all we needed right there in the hotel. Arriving at 2ish we checked in and had a lovely lunch in the hotel bar from their extensive lunchtime menu, with a couple of pints of Cromwell Ale to wash it down.

Rooms:
We had a lovely feature room which was at the top of the hotel on the 3rd floor. It was a converted attic so had very low ceilings (didn't bother me as I'm 5ft 2 but if you're much over that then you'll need to watch your head!)
The feature room was charming, looked out over the high st and was wonderfully cosy with an extremely comfy bed!

The hotel staff were always warm, friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble. Our evening meal at the hotel restaurant was a very succulent steak and accompanying veggies, a tempting selection of home made puddings - washed down with a lovely bottle of red.

All in all, a wonderful romantic weekend away for me and my husband, I'd love to stay here again when I next visit Banbury.

“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed overnight for a company function that we held at the Cromwell. From the initial enquiry to the actual day, Gabriel and his staff were excellent.

On arrival we were met by Stephanie, she is an asset to the Cromwell, she is so knowledgable, helpful and efficient. Gabriel was away due to personal reasons so Stephanie had stepped into his shoes and knew exactly what everyone was eating and all rooms were ready on arrival.

Great hotel, would highly recommend it.

“Excellant Staff”

My husband and I spent a weekend in January with friends at the Cromwell Lodge. The room we had on the top floor was spacious and cosy, our friends had similar inviting rooms, one on the top floor and one on the ground floor. We had dinner on the first evening in the resturant, it was very good and reasonably priced, the staff were attentive and friendy. The breakfasts were, as in all the Old English chain, excellant. The manager was courteous and friendly as were all the staff and they certainly made our stay very enjoyable. The hotel is centrally based and good for touring the Cotswolds.

Room Tip: Our room on the top floor was very spacious and cosy but we had to climb a lot of stairs, but it was...

“Very welcoming hotel - nice for a weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Having recently returned from a weekend (2 night) stay at the Cromwell Lodge Hotel Banbury I felt compelled to write a short review.

The hotel itself is in an excellent location not only for Banbury but also for exploring the local area. Oxford is easily reached by car or train and Stratford is only a short drive away. The staff at the hotel are friendly and efficient. We had no cause to complain about anything but we got the impression that if we did the management and staff would have done all they could to put it right.

The room that we stayed in was a standard room and although a little tired was clean and very comfortable.

The breakfasts were very good with a good choice on the menu for cooked breakfast and plenty of pastries, cereals, fruit and juices available.

Ideal for a couple of night stay to explore the local area.

“super service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Our family, ranging from 18 to 80 have stayed at the inn for two Christmas's running and have been absolutely delighted with the reception and service shown to us. This even extended to the staff helping to clear the snow and push our cars out of the car park in the winter of 2011.
The food and choice were excellent and nothing seems to be too much trouble to Gabi and Gabriella and the team. Rooms though not plush are perfectly clean and comfortble, the bar and lounge area are spacious and it is nice to see an open fire. Value for money wise this inn is second to none. Alan

Room Tip: The annexe rooms at the back are favourite.
