“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Having read some of the earlier reviews regarding the Rooms on offer, I decided to book direct with the Hotel and was allocated Room 3 on the first-floor. This was a spacious and quiet twin-bedded room and much better than what I was expecting. We arrived mid-afternoon in pouring rain and given a nice welcome by Monique (one of the Managers) who although obviously busy, quite rightly took the time to greet us as one would expect. Food was excellent (particularly the cooked breakfast) and served by friendly staff. Dinner was enhanced by the arrival of local carol singers who performed admirably despite some diners showing lack of respect with the volume of their conversation.
A most pleasant stay.

Room Tip: If in any doubt, book direct with the Management to ensure your requirements are met.

“Stayed mid week and the food was fab and accomodation lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Great mid week stay - lovely food and lovely cotswold pub - staff extremely friendly and highly recommended.

The bed in the ground floor room - i think 16 or 6 was rather lumpy!

“The dreaded room number 8”

Had a long journey from Dorset and arrived very late (11.30pm). Called ahead and the staff were very helpful and when we arrived had a chilled bottle of wine waiting. I carried the bags to our room up the winding narrow stairway and then through the labyrinth of halls and fire doors. On initial inspection had to smile at the layout. Mezzanine floor above with open plan bathroom. Everything clean and tidy but had we not been so tired and late we would have asked for a different room. We had booked through laterooms.com but as so often happens seems that this means you get the "laterooms" dodgy rooms. A 4 foot bed with one side up against the wall; no side lights so had to get out of bed to switch lights on/off narrow stairway to bathroom which is open plan so absolutely no privacy. The bed although small was comfortable for me but my partner was pinned against the wall with no room to move. Breakfast was very good, clean and beautifully cooked. Not a bad stay and we shall go back but shall make sure we have a real double room. Management needs to up the game a little and care a little more about the comfort of their paying guests.

Room Tip: Room 8 is really only a single occupancy room because of size of bed and mezzanine bathroom which af...

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate your feedback from your recent stay with us, all our bedrooms have unique character and vary in shape and size as can be appreciated from a 16th century Coaching Inn. We are always more than willing to address the needs of our guests where possible and would have moved you to a bigger room had you alerted us that you were uncomfortable.

“excellent hotel break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

We stay away at least 3 times a month and it is refreshing to stay at a pub/hotel and get a fantastic meal and excellent service. The hotel is run by a team of young people who make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. the beer is excellent with speckle hen and abbotts on handpump and with good quality wines at resonable prices. We stayed in the superior room (16) which is value for money and was clean and had extras of tea, coffee and chocolate with biscuits thrown in.
Worth a visit with good quality food and service this was a real treat.
