“Early Valentine Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

My husband and I have just spent a very pleasant Sunday night at this hotel. We booked the break Bed breakfast Evening meal plus a bottle of cava for £109.00 I did read all the other reviews but find my own views are the best. Thankyou for letting us know there is a parking charge. We had a standard room but as we are Leisure Break members asked if we could if possible get an upgrade to a Premier Room, low and behold they found us one on the second floor overlooking the front of the hotel, Room 209. this was quite large, a little dated but this is an old hotel. We had our cava with our evening meal, which was good, the service from all the staff was brilliant, very helpful, breakfast was also very good, buffet style which we like. We didnt use the facilities and we spent the day around the town and the caves. The only thing we did find a little tricky is the revolving front door, getting a suitcase through.
It is well worth becoming a member of the Leisurebreaks Club.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front have the best views, Ask to be upgraded where possible, become a member of their...

My wife arranged a night at The Opera House and unknown to me had booked in a the Palace Hotel. We only live at Matlock, as the weather was dodgy it was a good idea.

The staff were, from the start, very friendly and knowledgeable, our room, a twin, was a bit old fashioned but was clean and warm.

Breakfast was excellent and the service faultless.

Would have no qualms about staying there again.

“Fantastic Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We have just returned from a weekend break staying in the Palace Hotel in Buxton. This was booked as a surprise by my husband as a late availability booking.
On arrival I was impressed by the overall appearance of the hotel, and the very friendly reception staff.
The staircase is very grand and well decorated. We stayed in room 201 which was very clean, spacious and very comfortable, but lacked any views.
We have too say the breakfast was very good, helpful staff, always with a smile.
During our break there was a heavy snow fall and we could not believe how dedicated the staff were to the hotel, even working after a night shift to clear snow and scrape cars. I did note that certain guests could not even say thank you to these staff after given assistance in this way. We believed this was above the call of duty, even a lady from accounts came to clear the snow in her tractor. Well done to the dedicated staff.
My only disappoint with the hotel was the leisure centre, which was very dated, the steam room was out of order, and the swimming pool very cold. It does require modernisation if it is to compete with other hotels.
Buxton is a great location, with plenty of lovely pubs, and very friendly locals.
We will defiantly go back to this hotel and Buxton, and had a thoroughly great weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a view.

Thank you for the fantastic helpful feedback, It is great to learn that all of the extra efforts made by the team during the poor weather is appreciated by some guests. We are always trying to keep the leisure club up to date and we are hoping for some investment in this difficult climate.

“charming hotel in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The Palace Hotel is in an excellent location very near to shops, restaurants & pubs and also the train station. THe hotel is looking a bit tired in places but still feels elegant in the reception area with a lovely grand staircase. Our room 318 was a decent size with huge bathroom, unfortuantley the shower was not the best, not very powerful with fluctuating temperature. But other than that the room was fine. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. Overall I would definately recommend this hotel, and would stay here again if ever staying in Buxton again.

“Imposing Pile”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The Buxton Palace will have been magnificent in it's heyday and i don't envy the current owners in their task of keeping the place going. However they do a pretty good job. The lobby and central staircase occupy a huge space but are wel decorated. In some other areas the hotel creaks a bit - literally in the case of the ancient lift.
Our bedroom was a really good size with it's own hall. Clean and well decorated. The bathroom was on the basic side but has everything you need. There were very few people staying and this made breakfast a better experience. Our order was taken and the food cooked to orderrather than being kept warm.
We got the Palace at a good price of £69 so were really pleased. Definitely a good option if the prices is right. In truth the hotel is too big to be cozy but I would visit again. Buxton itself is a bit tired though.
One niggle with the hotel is a 'hidden' charge of £4.50 for car parking
