“Spot on. This is how accomodation SHOULD be.”
This B&B... where to start! When i arrived i was stunned by the beautiful location it was set in. Its location is perfect - it has all the breathtaking beauty of the countryside, with all the conveniences of a town just a short walk away. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the owners with smiling faces. I was made to feel like I was personally wanted, instead of being 'just another' B&B guest. I was even greeted by their very joyful dog, although that was short-lived as he was told to put me down and was tucked away round the back. They showed me to the Guest Lounge, which left me thinking "even my OWN lounge doesn't compare to this!" and the dining area, which was of the sort of standard you'd expect from a small restaurant, let alone a lowly B&B.
I had the great pleasure of staying in the room called 'King Offa'. Whilst being the most expensive room in the house, it was certainly a spectacular room. I couldn't help but think that they could afford to charge MORE for that room, but of course I daren't tell them that! It has a slip-in bathtub, en suite bathroom, a king-size bed (big enough for a very fat king indeed!) I'm not a fan of wood flooring, but even I have to say that the floor as well as the rest of the decorum and general theme in the room worked very well together. In my head, this was no longer a B&B guesthouse, this was a mini-palace of sorts. One of those beautiful gemstones that lie hidden behind a number of dirty rocks.
The breakfast was divine, and just everything about the whole place showed evidence of having been done with great love, care and effort. Adrian Finley, one of the owners, was even prepared to wear a pinny whilst serving breakfast! I've not seen too many men go anywhere near one!
Even when I paid and set off for departure, they saw me off, again with big smiles. I was half expecting the dog to see me off too, but sadly he was hiding somewhere. If i had any bad feelings from this, it would be towards myself for not knowing about this place sooner, as i have travelled around quite a lot and visited Hay-on-Wye many times. It is by far the best B&B in the Herefordshire/Powys area. I'm not an obsequious man, but even I can't help but sing their praises.
