We've been to Dunkeld many times. It's a very well-kept and attractive little town with some great wee eateries and a magnificant semi-ruin of a cathedral. As we wanted to explore some of the cycle paths around this part of Perthshire we decided to book at the Royal over the much more expensive and fussy Dunkeld House which is now owned by Hilton. It proved to be a great choice.
The interior is pretty traditional with tartan carpets, but our room, with three windows looking out on to the main street, was bright, fresh and well equipped with tea and coffee (avec tasty wee biscuits!). We also accessed the free wi-fi connection which, although not lightning fast, was perfectly adequate. All the staff we had to do with were not only friendly, they were accomodating and helpful. As veggies, we always worry about the p**s-poor offerings in hotel restaurants, but the mushroom ravioli on our first night was pretty tasty, and the chef made us a risotto for the next night. The food exceeded our expectations; not something we say often as vegetarians. The only slight disappointment was the breakfast when we weren't offered any veggie alternatives to the bacon, sausage etc which the meat eaters were all tucking into. We may bring our own mushrooms next time!
All in all this was a great choice in a hotel with bags of character. Recommended!
