I rang the guest house directly to book an overnight stay before travelling through the Euro Tunnel. I wanted one room for my wife and daughter and a separate room for my son. I was told that there were 2 rooms available but one was not a single. After some discussion the agreement was that the overall price would be £79 - slightly higher than it would have been for a family room and a single but a little lower than for 2 family rooms.
On our arrival, the owner asked to see me to discuss the price. Despite the fact that he showed me that he had clearly written the price we had agreed in his diary, he told me that he could not understand why he had quoted that price and that he would have to charge me more. I explained to him the discussions we had had and he very kindly (!) offered to try to find me alternative accommodation. After a long journey, this was obviously not suitable. He also said that we could all share the one room or pay a higher price than agreed. Not wishing to start my holiday with an argument, I agreed to pay the higher price but I have to say I was disgusted by his attitude. Overall the hotel is reasonably comfortable, although the road outside is quite noisy, but I would recommend that anyone who books a stay there gets a written quote before they arrive. The owner does not seem to recognize that a verbal agreement is a contract.
