“What a fantastic stay at the Kentmere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2008

We have just returned from a few days at the Kentemere Guest House. I was travelling with my friend and two small children. Upon arrival, the owners were very accomodating, ensuring that we brought the children into the house first before sorting any other aspect of our stay out. They then kindly advised us where the car could be parked before helping us with our luggage. The Guest House was so clean, fresh and very tidy, we could not believe what good value for money this little goldmine was. I am the sort of person that travels with business in big hotels and was a little concerned about staying in anything but, however, my opinion has changed and I would rather stay in a small friendly environment with people who care.

In the morning, our continental breakfast was served, however, they very kindly offered us a cooked breakfast at extra cost if required. Anything that you asked for, they were kind enough to help or advise. Kentmere is very warm and cosy and very quiet.

Don't be put off that the Guest House is on a main road with what seems little around it. This is a perfect resting place after a long day by the seaside at Dymchurch, Folkestone or Hythe. There is so much to do and see in the area and all places are reachable by train, bus or car. Dymchurch is a must for the good old fashioned holiday and make sure that you go on the little steam trains, it is so much fun...... If you are up for a walk, you can easily access town within 5-10 minutes walk, where there are restaurants and a shopping precinct.

The next time we visit Folkestone or this area, we will be staying at the Kentmere for sure.

“Not too bad. Good price, close to the M20, walking distance to the city centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2008

I decided a few weeks before I had to take an early Chunnel train that I did not want to drive during the night, so I booked via a website a single room for £25. That was already reasonable. The room is small, but with everything, Coffee making stuff, ensuite, wifi, tv. Clean. Close to the city centre. Quite a choice of restaurants, by the way. I had to leave early and the owner brought me a cool box with milk, cereal, yoghurt, fruit. No complaint whatsoever. I can come here more often, also with family. More relaxed then getting up at 2.30AM and drive 3 hours to the train. I parked around the corner and had no trouble finding a spot.

“False Advertising”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2007

I was told breakfast was just a continental breakfast. Whatever happened to the ´Full Cooked English Breakfast“ that was advertised?! Also breakfast was at 8:00AM. On a Sunday! There was no flexibility such as breakfast being served between 8:00am and 9:30am or some such. It was 8:00 am or nothing!
It advertises as having private parking. When I said that I would be returning late at night, I was told that the owners would have locked up the private parking and be in bed at that time and so I could not park my car in the private parking. It is very difficult to find parking in the streets around there.
False advertising is how I would sum up the Kentmere Guest House.

“Problems at the Kentmere Guest House, Folkestone: Be Warned!”

I rang the guest house directly to book an overnight stay before travelling through the Euro Tunnel. I wanted one room for my wife and daughter and a separate room for my son. I was told that there were 2 rooms available but one was not a single. After some discussion the agreement was that the overall price would be £79 - slightly higher than it would have been for a family room and a single but a little lower than for 2 family rooms.

On our arrival, the owner asked to see me to discuss the price. Despite the fact that he showed me that he had clearly written the price we had agreed in his diary, he told me that he could not understand why he had quoted that price and that he would have to charge me more. I explained to him the discussions we had had and he very kindly (!) offered to try to find me alternative accommodation. After a long journey, this was obviously not suitable. He also said that we could all share the one room or pay a higher price than agreed. Not wishing to start my holiday with an argument, I agreed to pay the higher price but I have to say I was disgusted by his attitude. Overall the hotel is reasonably comfortable, although the road outside is quite noisy, but I would recommend that anyone who books a stay there gets a written quote before they arrive. The owner does not seem to recognize that a verbal agreement is a contract.
