“Nice place - rooms a bit cramped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Stayed for a week. First impression of my room was how small it was. Case had to go on my bed to unpack as there was no room to do this on the floor. It had all of the usual things - facilities to make a hot drink, TV and free wi fi. Towels and sheets changed once during my stay. You settle your account on arrival which is unusual. Made me think twice about moving to somewhere else. This was not because there was anythign wrong with the place - I just did not like Folkestone.

The most noticable thing was how en suit facilites had been put into the room and how cramped it was. Able to use all the facilities but then I am of average build. Anyone any bigger may have found it a bit tight. The sink was no good for anything much other than hand washing due to it being so small and a shelf immediately over the top of it. Just as well the kettle was filled when the room was serviced as it was impossible to fill it from the sink. Saw some of the other rooms and realised how lucky I was as some were even more cram;ped than mine.

Good home cooked breakfast was included in the price I paid which I noticed from other reviews was not the case. Staff are friendly. The owner really tried to change my views on the town. May be a nice place to live but not so good to visit as there is very little in the town centre after the shops shut. Saying that this B+B is close to the town and the station. If I had to give one tip about the place is book somewhere that does half board. Save a lot of searching for places to eat. In a good seaside town I would be happy to recommend this place.

Room Tip: For a solo ask for room 6.

“Friendly, comfortable and clean, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2010

We enjoyed our stay at Kentmere in a comforatable airy and light room with a comfortable bed. The service was good, with every effort made to meet any requests we had, as well as provide information and recommendations for meals and entertainment. The breakfast was good and could be expanded to full English Breakfast, which we did. We will stay there again in future.

“Good but small bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

Overall, we were happy with our stay. The room was clean, good shower, reasonably quiet, friendly people, very tasty breakfast, and no problem parking round the corner.
The only problem was that our double bed was very narrow, only 115 or 120 cm wide (about 4 feet). There was also a single bed in the room, but we booked a double room, so we expected at least 135 cm bed to have a proper sleep.
Are there any rules on what can be advertised as double room?

“What a fantastic stay at the Kentmere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2008

We have just returned from a few days at the Kentemere Guest House. I was travelling with my friend and two small children. Upon arrival, the owners were very accomodating, ensuring that we brought the children into the house first before sorting any other aspect of our stay out. They then kindly advised us where the car could be parked before helping us with our luggage. The Guest House was so clean, fresh and very tidy, we could not believe what good value for money this little goldmine was. I am the sort of person that travels with business in big hotels and was a little concerned about staying in anything but, however, my opinion has changed and I would rather stay in a small friendly environment with people who care.

In the morning, our continental breakfast was served, however, they very kindly offered us a cooked breakfast at extra cost if required. Anything that you asked for, they were kind enough to help or advise. Kentmere is very warm and cosy and very quiet.

Don't be put off that the Guest House is on a main road with what seems little around it. This is a perfect resting place after a long day by the seaside at Dymchurch, Folkestone or Hythe. There is so much to do and see in the area and all places are reachable by train, bus or car. Dymchurch is a must for the good old fashioned holiday and make sure that you go on the little steam trains, it is so much fun...... If you are up for a walk, you can easily access town within 5-10 minutes walk, where there are restaurants and a shopping precinct.

The next time we visit Folkestone or this area, we will be staying at the Kentmere for sure.
