“Disgusting...”

Had forgotten about this place but chanced upon its name when looking for a hotel in the region and happened to read other reviews so thought I'd put my tuppence worth in.
I read about the place on the hotels site and thought it sounded nice - only wanted somewhere to stay for a night whilst visiting a friend in hospital.
First impressions were poor. Reception dingy, dirty carpet, smell of rot. Then the room....
The wallpaper barely kept in the crumbling plaster. The room stank of rot, there were three beds in the room, all with stained candlewick-type bedspreads. The room contained a small, rickety, stained table, presumably for the English breakfast to be placed upon.
The bathroom was a nightmare - fixtures and fittings were old, worn and of very poor quality. No towels or soap.
There was a small parking space at the rear of the hotel - not secure by any means.
The owner was obnoxious - when I asked a reasonable question about the breakfast coffee, i.e. was it 'proper' or instant, he became abusive.
We decided we could not stay in such a poor quality establishment and left. We found a pleasant room at the Best Western Clifton and had an enjoyable evening and night there.
The Banque should be closed down or sued under the Trades Descriptions Act.

“Don't even consider it .......!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2007

Dirty, smelly, rooms not ready, beds unmade and messy bathroom from previous guests, not expected by proprietor, arrived too early (5.30pm), cleaner just on her way ........what an absolute nightmare! We had booked 2 family rooms, neither of which were fit for my dog. Still had to pay cost of most expensive room for cancelling last minute. What a rip off. DON'T EVEN CONSIDER THIS ONE.

“the damp dowdy dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2007

On arrival we were shown to a basement apartment which resembled a damp squat beds where damp, the english breakfast which we paid for and requested was 1 egg 1 slice of bacon and 1 sausage the owner said ''stocky builders had trouble consuming the big breakfast'' my answer to that is it would have fitted on 1 slice of bread and would have been consumed in about 20 seconds. Stay there at your peril. You also have to pay extra for a garage which belongs to the neighbours house once you negociate the mower and the other rubish which is in the garage you will just about get your car in.

“friendliness and helpfulness of staff (George and Jay)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2006

We recently had two overnight stays at the Banque Hotel in Folkestone and found the rooms spacious, clean and welcoming! - both our stays were excellent - the hospitality and friendliness of the two staff members who we met (George and jay) was exceptional - we were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed delicious breakfasts, brought to our room at our requested time (very early!!)

We will definitely stay at the Banque Hotel next time we are in Folkestone!!

“We're not picky! This one was a nightmare!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2005

-First off, the place was filthy. The lobby floor was so dirty, you couldn't make out the carpet color in the middle.
-Second, the room they gave the three of us was in a dingy room below ground, with spindly old beds and a TV sitting on a chair. This room had no door knob, only a dead bolt. It was ugly, moldy and smelled like wet old rugs.
-Third, when we asked for a different room, I was shown to the FIFTH floor (no elevator) to a room with two single beds. After going back down to the lobby, I was told if I wanted to have beds for my wife, daughter and I up there, all I had to do was lug the roll-away from the basement room to the fifth floor myself!

We had booked this place online (months before from California), based on the flowery introduction and photos-like you might. Unless they fire the pseudo-psychiatrist (but oh-so-lazy!) manager and clean, clean, clean, I would not recommend this place to an enemy!

We did not stay at the Banque, but instead shlepped around with our bags for a couple of hours until we found the Best Western "Clifton Hotel" at a much higher (but worth it!) price. The Banque was just awful, and I couldn't bring myself to spend two of the few nights we had in the UK in this ugly, dirty place.

OH, BY THE WAY! Although we had booked for two nights and cancelled our reservations that afternoon, we were refunded NOTHING! Even after an appeal online and on the phone.

I have NEVER written a poor review for any hotel, restaurant, etc. before, and I was a retail and restaurant manager for many years myself. If I was the owner of this place...Oh boy! Heads would roll for this!

But apparently they won't. So, STAY AWAY!
