“Warm welcome and great hospitality”

Reading some of the reviewers' comments, I wonder if they stayed in the same place as us. The proprietors, Ron and Sue could not have been more welcoming. The hotel is very well'appointed and the rooms were clean and cosy ( which given the awful weather outside, we really appreciated)
The TV coverage does not do justice to the place. Go and stay there. I guarantee you'll be glad you did!

“ABSOLUTELY FILTHY, VILE AND MINGING... GET A DUSTER AND SOME DECENT CLEANING STUFF!!!”

I stopped here in December only to be greeted by an awful rude woman. you were overwhelmed by all the horrible items which I would describe as trash hanging from the walls. Wherever you looked there was some kind of crap, the room which I paid 85 quid for was a complete joke. had i only remembered to bring my cleaning kit containing a duster some polish and some bleach that would have been better. As for the toilet where was my caustic soda it had got to be worse than a public toilet used by over 100 tramps per night. The bedding did not smell clean or fresh it was itchy. Perhaps I should go back to give the staff a lesson on how to clean. It needs a bloody good overhaul. I have a cleaning business which I would more than welcome for you to hire which from personal experience you definitely need to. You need to get the décor sorted too as it is all horrific.

“AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

I phoned up the elderely couple who run this place before I booked a night away for me and my partner. There was a great weather forecast for that day and we felt like a night away lounging by a pool. I asked if the pool was open and the elderly man said "oh yes". I booked online, then noticed as I was booking that it said "check-in at 5pm". I called them back and spoke to the same guy who said that we couldn't arrive any earlier, the pool could be opened for us later on in the evening but at great inconvenience to them and it was difficult doing anything because his wife had had a stroke and he would be at the hospital all day with her. I felt very sorry for him, but also didn't want to arrive in Folkestone too late in the afternoon to have a swim and relax and feel uncomfortable in the place so I politely asked him if he'd mind if I cancelled.... well that's when the fireworks began!

His wife grabbed that phone and said there's no way I could cancel, all the effort and time that would have to go into a refund (they'd already taken my money as soon as I clicked confirm on their website). I kept my cool and stated that although sorry for their predicament, I wanted a well earned night away and it was quite clear that we would not be welome here. Evenutally she said that she would refund half of the £80 charge. I then thanked her very much and told her I appreciated it, so then she softened suddenly and said she would charge me a £15 cancellation feel.

It took two weeks of me constantly calling and harassing them to get this money back. £80 went out of my account and eventually they refunded £65 (after i called endlessly at six in the morning to show I wouldn't rest until they paid up. It's not so much the money I resented but the fact that they were so deceitful both on the phone and on their website initially. So £15 and a huge amount of time wasted on a couple who need to pack up and retire. The woman was so rude to me. When I asked if I could have a refund she barked "no". I told her my parents run a B&B and they would always unquestioningly qive a refund if the person called within 24 hours to cancel. She barked back "I'm not your Mum and Dad am I?" REALLY REALLY BAD VIBES...

So, writing a review without even seeing the place, but having read the rest of the reviews I'm with them... DON'T DO IT. FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...

“welcome to the Bates motel”

The only positive thing about this place is the location near to both ferry and tunnel terminals. On arrival off a busy road, you are interogated by the owner, a fearsome woman that seems intent on making you feel as uncomfortable as possible. This feeling is enhanced when you go into the public areas that are filled with what can only be described as the junk left in a skip at the end of a car boot sale. We felt as if staying there was a major hinderence the owners domestic family bliss. One thing the does make you laugh is the sign outside this dump proclaiming " Arrive as strangers leave as friends " I hate to think what happen if they really don't like you

“Never Again”

This is the worst place i have ever stayed at. The hotel was full of dated trash that really made me want to pack up and leave not unpack and stay. If I wasn't so tired after a long car trip I would have done just this. Isn't it 2009 not 1809? What a shame there wasn't more space to relax without being bombarded with tasteless trash.
