We stayed at Relish for one night earlier this month. Overall, it was a lovely B&B, if a little expensive, with big, well equipped rooms, and a lovely breakfast, and just a couple of minutes walk to the sea.
The website says “Spacious rooms located at the top of the building, with views of Augusta Gardens to the White Cliffs of Dover or of the West End towards Trinity Church.” – it is not clear which room you are booking, and the one we were allocated (Chimney) was clearly the poorer cousin to the other room on the top of the building (Cliff), with no sea views. In retrospect, we would not have paid the extra for the view from our room – which was a rather uninspiring, and narrow, view of the street below.
In addition, we requested a double room – however, Chimney has two single beds (of varying heights!) pushed together to create a double bed.
We requested to leave our bags at the place at around 11am, having been told our rooms would not be ready until 3pm, and received confirmation this would be OK – unfortunately, none of the staff were on duty at this time and, after a 5 minute wait outside, we were shown up to our room, which appeared to have been cleaned and ready to accommodate us, by a (very nice and helpful) young man. I was a little dismayed by the somewhat hostile reception we received from the member of staff who, having arrived shortly after being shown to our rooms, was rather frosty with myself and my girlfriend, and clearly felt that we should not have been shown to our rooms (which did seem odd as the room was clearly ready much earlier than we were advised). While this experience did not mar an otherwise excellent break, it was somewhat less than the warm welcome we would expect at such an otherwise excellent B&B.
