I stayed at Elm Crest as I am on a course in Huddersfield which runs on Friday night and all day Saturday and so it made sense to stay locally. I contacted the hotel in the afternoon of arrival to find out what was the latest time that i could check in. I was glad that they said i could check in after my course finished, which meant arriving at around 10pm.

The guesthouse has off street parking and was very easy to find. Check-in was easy and quick. I completed the registration form and made my choices for breakfast, also saying what time i would be having breakfast. I was shown to my room and told that I could help myself to the home made treats in the lobby area (scones and flapjack - lovely!!).

I had the small single bedroom which is small but was all that i needed for an overnight stay. The bathroom had a shower unit in it and the room also had a wardrobe, bedside table, refreshments tray and flat screen tv with freeview. It was really comfortable and I slept like a baby.

Breakfast was also really good and aswell as the full English, a selection of cereals and fruit salad were alaos available.

My stay at Elm Crest was so relaxing and warm and the hosts were both so welcoming and pleasant. I'm really looking foward to my stay next month!

Very pleasant hotel run by Sue and Chas Henderson, with cost-effective single rooms and a friendly atmosphere. I was welcomed with a smile, and a cup of tea and a home-cooked scone. My room was clean, and offered a TV, an en suite bathroom, and - get this! - courtesy chocolates! There was a wide choice of breakfasts, and my bacon and eggs were cooked to a 't'. I would be delighted to stay again when I'm in the area again, and have recommended the hotel to friends.

The guest house had just changed hands; the new owners were struggling to keep up, not employing any staff and doing everything themselves. Whereas the room was clean and comfortable and the guest house is convenient for the town centre, it was spoilt by the attitude of the husband who complained on several occasions during my 4 night stay about how much work it all was and huffed and puffed - looking for sympathy perhaps ? I was told off for not ordering a boiled egg for breakfast with sufficient notice - the guest house has a ridiculous system whereby you have to order what you want the night before. I felt that I was an inconvenience to them: if I came to breakfast towards the end of the serving hours, the owner rushed me through it and made a face. There was no adapter available for my US plug and the bill was wrong at check-out time. While the wife was friendly and accommodating, the husband needs to take some lessons from the other side of the Atlantic on what service means and not bother the guests with his personal problems - nobody wants to hear all of that.

Its a nice old clean property to stay. The owners have changed in August. on the negative side, they do not have internet wi-fi connectivity on their property at all for guests.
