“What a hotel!”

we held our wedding at the Hey Green, and contrary to some negative comments on TripAdvisor, we can only state that from booking this as our wedding venue to us leaving Siobhan and her staff (particularly Alex) were excellent in their professional and friendly service, nothing was too much for them, we would even recommend using the resident DJ. The hotel it self is lovely, no sterile 'all look a like' bedrooms, all are individual in deco and style. The hotel serves very high quality food and again nothing is too much for the staff to ensure that all tastes and food preferences are catered for......we would recommend this hotel as an ideal venue for anyone's wedding, particularly as you have exclusive use.

“A perfect wedding day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We got married on 29 December 2011, with the wedding at church and the reception at the Hey Green. We had an amazing day, everything ran to plan and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The staff at the Hey Green were attentive, friendly and professional throughout, the food top-notch and the newly-redecorated function room looked fantastic. We had the run of the hotel, having booked all the rooms (along with some at their sister pub in Marsden) so everyone was able to relax and enjoy themselves.

Special mention must go to Alex, who was a great help whilst planning the day and kept everything running like clockwork. But I would also like to thank the owners Siobhan and Mark, along with the night manager and all who were working that day.

I would definitely recommend the Hey Green for anyone considering a wedding in the area, They really helped make our special day really very special indeed.

Thanks

James and Charlotte

ps - just remember to give your guests really good directions as it is not the easiest place to find in the dark!

“Our Special day.........The horrible morning after”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

We booked our wedding reception at this stunning location where we were quoted and agreed prices. On the build up to the day we arranged all the details with the staff and again confirmed prices. On occasion I did ring the hotel to query a few things but unless it was Alex who I spoke to I was always made to feel as though I was pestering or being a burden.
We were married in Lees and then made our way to Marsden. I was greeted by a glass of bubbly and Alex who had been brilliant with me and always helpful. The food was excellent and the drinks kept coming.
We had the pleasure of our Godson joining us on the day (10 months old), a wooden high chair was provided for him which his grandparents sat him in, moments later it collapsed. No apology was offered and the chair was quickly replaced and luckily the child was unharmed.
We obviously had the 'luxury' of the bridal suite & a jacuzzi. However, when it came to us trying to take advantage of this I walked in to find the tap in my husbands hand. Clearly needed some form of maintenance.
The next morning we were told that several of the rooms had no electricity and one of the guests had gone to try and find a fuse box to try and sort the issue but had no joy. The plumbing in one of the rooms was also an issue and the guests were unable to use the facilities properly.
At breakfast one of my bridesmaids sat down in a seat which instantly collapsed. Again no apology was offered and another chair was shoved infront of her.
In the morning it was one of the directors serving; I had the embarrassment of my friends/family coming to me as she had been rude to them. Obviously it was a bit of a joke to everyone else but to me it was just awful.
When it came to settling the remaining bill it became apparent that people whos rooms should of been included in the price had actually been charged. They had paid and left which again was another embarrassment as these guests would not have stayed if the rooms were not provided and yet they had had to pay. I obviously queried this with the person in charge that day (director). In a very aggressive way she told me I was wrong and the rooms needed paying for. When I pushed the matter further my bill was literally slammed down on the desk infront of me, infront of the other guests and argued. I was made to feel 2inches small the first day of my married life by the people my family and I had paid thousands to make it special. When I made this point the director laughed and said 'well?!'. All I could bring myself to say after this was 'Im disgusted, Im SO angry!!' - my family and friends took me away as I was literally in tears at this point and luckily my new husband came to my rescue. He took over at this point and they admitted their error; they were aware that a staff member who had since left had been mis-selling their packages and yet they had stood there making me feel like a liar in front of my guests. We were also taken to one side where we were advised that the wedding for the Sunday had been cancelled that morning which was why there was a negative impact on us. Clearly this was no excuse we had paid our money in full and then some as we later discovered.
We should of had all table decorations etc included; we paid for these seperately and brought them the day before (where were also told we may have to pay extra for someone placing them on the tables). We also paid for the DJ which should of been included. Two of our guests were charged for rooms when they should of been included. All rooms should of had a 25% discount - this was not honoured and never refunded. On our total bill we were over charged by 25% plus the previously mentioned. The price we were quoted for the package when we booked was not honoured; we had to go off the new 2011 price which the difference was around £4-500.
The two rooms that should of been included did not have to be paid for in the end but they were charged for breakfast even though in the listings it states that this was included. We were refunded the money owed but this was critically calculated - there was no good will included. We had no apology and it was all made out to be a mis-understanding on our part. We were offered a drink in Marsden but to go all that way driving it just would not of been worth the petrol.
After us coming back from our 2 week honeymoon and having to ring the hotel literally every day a letter was issued to my father along with the cheque for the refund 5/6 weeks later (including our deposit). It had become that ridiculous that when ringing the staff were actually saying 'I'm not trying to fob you off'. The 25% discount to the fully booked hotel guests has never been refunded.
Our special day was still perfect but the day after was a nightmare. Unfortunately this tainted our honeymoon as we could not help but think about it and wonder what would be waiting for us when we got home as we were advised our refund would be posted the day after the wedding (what a joke!). And unfortunately it has tainted our memories as we cannot think of our magical day without thinking of the day after. Hopefully in time this will change.

“My daughter's wedding.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

It is now the 1st of November and I feel that I have calmed down enough to write an honest report.
My daughter was married at St Edward's Lees , then the reception was held at Hey Green on the 10th of September. The setting is beautiful and all guests were met with bubbly and snacks. The meal was very good and my daughter Lara and her new Husband David truly did have the day of their lives.

When the meal had finished and the entertainment started in the main room there were clearly not enough tables and chairs (we were a small party.) I asked the floor manager for more but he said they were not available. Evening guests started to arrive and people were stood up in the bar with only one person manning the bar. I again asked for more chairs to which "I will see what I can do" was the answer but none arrived.
My happily married couple were oblivious to all this until the morning. I had not stayed too late in the evening as I had an early flight the following morning to Cornwall. On the way to the airport I received a call from my daughter in tears that they had been overcharged by the hotel, people who's rooms had been paid for were charged and I could not do anything about it as i was going to Cornwall for 3 weeks.
After 4 and a half weeks I received the money I was overcharged and the bond for the day. Money was also returned to people who were charged when it should have been free i.e. in the package. I also received an apology of sorts but this does not replace the now bad memories for my daughter and David and the embarrassment I felt when having given rooms to people visiting from afar, they had a bill slapped in their faces Sunday morning.
As a location superb but on that weekend a superb letdown.

The Father of the Bride.
