“Does what it says on the tin!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed here overnight as part of a parking and hotel package, prior to getting an early flight.
We had a family room - so with 2 teenagers it was very small - but was what we expected.
It was really snowy that night so the hotel was very busy - but seemed to be coping well. We had a meal in the restaurant which was OK - usual stuff, and watched the rugby match in the bar. We managed a quick breakfast at 4.00 a.m. which was good.
The hotel reception had arranged for a taxi to take us to the airport - but due to the snow it didn't turn up - so we decided to walk - providing you can pull your luggage it really doesn't take that long 5 - 10 mins are there are footpaths all the way to the terminal.

Overall, the stay was fine and met my expectations.

“Tiny room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

As other reviewers have mentioned, most people stay for just the one night in between flight connections and this is something I feel the hotel banks on.

We are a family of four, two adults and two kids. The room we were given was tiny to say the least. There was a double bed for my wife and I and one single sized sofa bed for my two kids to share! With the sofa bed extended, there was hardly any room for our two standard sized suitcases and even much less to walk around in.

We checked in at around 3pm after arriving at Luton airport and we had an early morning flight the next day (4am wake up). The plan was to get ourselves fed and have an early night. Unfortunately, food is not served at the hotel till 6pm and only crisps and snacks are 'available' from a vending machine. Thankfully we had a few bit and pieces to eat in our hand luggage but in the end we had to go to bed hungry else wait till 6.00 to eat. Not very good planning for an airport hotel!

Breakfast was not much better. Hot breakfasts are only available from 6am so the next morning at 5am - the time we were leaving for the airport - we had to contend with just cereal and sliced bread, horrible watered down juices and even worse coffee. Other airport hotels either have hot breakfast available from very early morning or at the very least, arrange a packed breakfast for you. The breakfast area wasn't even manned at that time! The only member of staff was the receptionist.

All this for £80. We have stayed at the Premier Inn at Gatwick which is cheaper, the rooms are larger and meals are served at least 18 hours a day.

Next time, we'll stay at the Premier Inn at Luton which is a bit further from the airport but worth it. We only stayed at the Holiday Inn because it was closer.

On hindsight, I'd rather stay further away and get a better service. Holiday Inn? Holiday Out for me from now on!

Room Tip: Try and get the disabled rooms if possible. I was told by another guest that they are much larger! D...

Dear Guest
Thank you for feedback, we are very sorry we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. In regards to the room all rooms are of a standard size and very similar to other hotels in the area.

We are limited by our brand standards on the Food and Beverage offering we can offer, and continue work with IHG to develop and extend our offering.

Breakfast is complementary and do advertise that there is a limited offer from 4am.

We do hope that you would consider using us again in the future.

Kind Regards

“Low standards and a bit grotty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I don't like writing negative reviews but I'm struggling to think of anything good to say about this hotel. Thankfully I only stayed one night - as I'm sure most guests do - which is what I think they're counting on. Unfortunately my company has offices nearby so I imagine I'll be back someday.

Check-in was alright. Paying for wifi is very 2000s and hotels like this one should really be leading the way in offering it for free.

What shocked me most was that when I got to my room I found a random old receipt, some kind of 2 for 1 drinks voucher, an old room keycard and a few other bits in the room which had been left by the previous guest and not cleared by housekeeping. These were dated two weeks before my visit! Initially I was worried someone was still checked in to the room - until I saw the dates. In the bathroom one of the cups looked like it had recently been used and didn't have the plastic cover on it. This was all a sign of very, very sloppy housekeeping. Needless to say I did use the 2 for 1 voucher in the bar.

Breakfast was alright actually. It was very "help yourself" which I guess is what one should expect at a property like this one.

Check out was quick. That's all I really have to say about this place which is a shame. I usually have so much more to add. Oh, it was very expensive. The price shocked me when I checked out.

“Average hotel, overpriced drinks and food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This hotel is only good for a stopover if flying from Luton airport the next day. However, the hotel is far away from anything else and lacks character.

I got bored as there was nothing to do here. There is a bar and a restaurant but they were overpriced but the rooms are clean and comfortable and you can get a good night's sleep. If staying in Luton for longer than a night I would recommend somewhere closer to the city centre.

“Excellent for Airport Stopover.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Luton Airport the night before our flight. We found the room to be very comfortable and warm, the room and bathroom were very clean and the toiletries were most useful and of a good quality. We found it easy to walk to/from the airport itself and this again is a plus. We certainly would use this hotel again when we fly from Luton.
