“Ok for the money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

We arrived early and rang bell to see if we could leave cases, no one answered although there was someone there. When we checked in we found the room was cleanish, found crumbs under the drawers. I was pleased we were only staying one night as beds not very comfortable, one of the beds my daughter stayed in had a dip in the middle of the mattress so not good. Blinds in the bedroom were broke could not pull them up to open the window as it was so hot. Ensuite was so small that we never even attempted to shower. Breakfast was good but didn't like the fact that the owner was hovering around all the time and whipping the plates away as soon as you put your knife and fork down. Although there is parking it is on a sloping site and if you park at the top you will be blocked in which was the case with me.

“pleasant,no fuss or frills,b&b as it should be.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

my three sons and i booked a weekend for my 50th birthday, arrived 1.15pm on friday and were greeted by the lady owner and was shown our room (the family room/no2 ) which was clean, comfortable on suite, very light and airy and overlooked the main road the owner was freindly and helpful. i had ordered full english breakfasts for the morning and i must say they was very good and cooked beautifully..plenty of tea/coffee, toast etc.the northcote is situated in a lovely quiet road a couple of hundred yards from peashom park and north bay ,its very quiet and if you want a lovely drink with your family then go 500 yards to the bowlig club, open to everyone and really freindly.. if you want south beach and busy nightlife then it a steady 15 minute walk from b&b...all in all a very pleasant stay.

“Definitely not booking a return visit!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2010

The 3pm check-in is absolute, there is no deviation from this and you won't get entry to the hotel before then. The rooms are basic and functional, although some of the ensuites are so small you can shower and flush the toilet at the same time!
Whilst the rooms are fairly clean we had been left a used newspaper in the toilet (thank you for that unexpected gift), and our family members in another room found used sanitary products in their bin (a less welcome find). Nevertheless, we all managed a good night's sleep, probably largely due to the alcohol we consumed.
The rooms at the rear overlook a dilapidated shed, plastic garden chair and used mattress, however the front has a more pleasant vista.
On a more positive note, the owner prides himself on his breakfast (not the cleaning though huh?) and it was very good.

“Not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

Upon our arrival there was nobody to let us in so we had to hang around outside for about 20 minutes. When the proprietor finally arrived we were made to feel less than welcome and, again, spent time waiting, this time in the reception area. Our room was basic, which we expected. What we did not expect, however, was cobwebs on the ceiling, stained bed linen and mould on the bathroom ceiling. On a plus note, the bed was comfy and the breakfast was nice although I noticed something suspect floating in my tea. Car parking is available for 4 cars only, and the proprietor uses one of these so be prepared to park on the street if you're driving. A 10 minute walk away is a pub called The Ivanhoe which offers superior accomodation for similar prices. Best bet is to just turn up and she'll 'do you a deal' - if only we'd known.
