We travelled up to Scarborough with friends last weekend and wanted to stay where they were staying, so I checked out Granville Lodge on TripAdvisor. A couple of reviews posted recently nearly put me off booking. Luckily I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised.

The hotel itself is 5 mins walk from South Bay - perfect if you spend a lot of time on the beach. The room was spacious, with high ceilings, and despite being by the front door noise wasn't a problem. Reading the reviews I was worried the room wouldn't be warm enough, but it was warm, there was plenty of hot water and we had everything we needed.

The staff were friendly; the reception isn't manned all the time, but that wasn't a problem. Nice breakfast.

I think this was great value for £35 per night - especially considering it included breakfast and the rooms were ensuite. If it were £50 per night I might pick holes in the decor or minor details such as the room needing a bit of an airing when we arrived - nothing which couldn't be rectified easily. However for the price I paid, all I'm looking for is a warm, clean room, a comfortable bed and helpful staff and I got all three.

Looking forward to going back there again.

The key is, when you're paying £35 a night B&B, you can't expect the world... thats why its £35. Thats what they cater for and frankly they do it well.
It's not pretentious or stuck up. It doesn't pretend to be a £100 hotel. It's a simple, honest to god B&B.
Eat your breakfast in the morning, get changed, come back at night. Isn't that what Scarborough's all about? Seeing the "sights". So what if the rooms look like they were designed by children, So what if each time you climb a flight of stairs you go back a century. The simple fact is, at no point on your holiday you have to say, "Sorry love we cant do that, its too expensive" because you CAN afford to do it. Thats the beauty of the place.

Key points; service is absolutely top notch, both on reception and breakfast. The beds were comfy and clean. And breakfast was very good.

If they were charging more i could understand the points many people have brought up but as they're not, I cant.

£70 for a double room by the sea for 2 nights and weren't robbed, stabbed or in blackpool. Good value i say.

If you have ever read down and out in Paris & London by George Orwell this hotel would fit in perfectly.

Stayed with 3 mates we had a huge room with a big comfy 4 poster bed could not belive how cheap it was evan though it was the middle of summer. we stayed for 3 nights.the staff were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was Great. Graet value Looking forward to returning this Summer.
