Phoned to book my room and was told that they would have to phone me back as they were busy, no problem. They did phone back that evening and took all the details, and asked what time we would be arriving and so all systems go.
On arrival at the hotel at the arranged time, we were greeted rather abruptly by one the owners. He said "O I thought you were the BBC, we are expecting the BBC" he then gave us the story of the BBC staying there whilst rushing us upto our room. He then asked if we would like a cooked breakfast in the morning, to which we said yes but my partner tried to explain that I don't eat fried eggs, he interrupted him and said "O we can sort that out tomorrow" - well why ask then?
The rooms are all of a theatrical theme, with lovely views and was clean and tidy although as the hotel website advises, they are all upstairs so this is not appropriate for people with walking difficulties. The ensuite was OK although a MAJOR cause for concern for me was that on the wall where the toilet is, there was a pink carpet on the wall!!! Carpet on a wall? in a bathroom? Pink? It couldn't be any worse!!
On deciding to check out the local area, the owner kindly gave us a map and gave us a few pointers, he then explained the door system, the outer door has a key, the inner had a number keypad and he gave us the code for that. Off we went and on our return we used the number keypad which unlocked the door, which then made a noise, and then the owner appeared. This happened EVERY time we can in, one of the owner's would appear. I must stress that this a 5 bedroom establishment and not a large hotel, I understand that security is an issue but to appear every time we had entered the access code that they had given us was excessive, they would also appear every time we left. Perhaps giving them the benefit of the doubt they were just being friendly by I just thought it was OTT.
Breakfast, unfortunately was an experience too, as I explained there a 5 bedrooms here. But for some reason they have 2 large tables in the dining room so you can end up sitting with strangers. I'm not an anti-social person but like to get on with Breakfast quietly. Before we had even sat down one of the hosts was there with a notebook asking what we wanted. Again perhaps just being friendly but I really didn't see why it had to be so hurried. Cereals, limited orange juice, tea, fresh coffee and a cooked breakfast with brown or white toast. The breakfast were freshly cooked but the bacon was smoked, this isn't to every ones taste and I feel people should be advised of this before ordering, sadly no beans either on the positive the sausages in particular were fabulous.
All in all I've tried to be as fair as possible, on the positives the views from the hotel were stunning, good location and very clean. I just feel that the owner's could have given us a bit more space, as we honestly felt they were stalking us. As I've said maybe they were just being friendly but unfortunately, we found it overpowering,
