I'll keep this brief...Don't go, if you are looking for a romantic weekend away with your loved one and expect, not just the usual trappings but the basic rudimentary comfort and cleanliness, then this place will disappoint you!

I expect in it's day it was very grand and luxurious, the foyer leading to the main staircase echoes past glories, but the rest of the hotel only smells of nostalgia (Fusty to say the least).

My wife and I walked straight back out after seeing the room, it was subsided in two directions with a seaview comprising of 1/4 of the coastline and 3/4 of the hotel next door. This is not to say there may be grander rooms, but it cost me enough for what i was offered and I wouldn't want to spend anymore in a place like this.

Oh and to add insult to injury the hotel is in administration, which no one tells you about! As you would expect the poor staff must feel like they are fighting a losing battle, and morale can only be low. But I can't comment on there performance as we didn't stay to find out.

Look elsewhere...there's much better to choose from just up the coast toward Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay.

we have just returned from a couple of days away in scarborough we had purchased a groupon voucher which included evening meal and when phoned to book we were advised evening meal wasnt included but we would be upgraded to a sea view room we were not happy but decided we needed the break anyway.
when we arrived we were greeted with the most wonderful receptionist who listened to our moans she helped us with car parking said they had a special offer on the evening meals 3 courses for £20 which we decided to have anyway! the room we had was 212 it was a lovely room well worth the £20 if we would of had to of paid, we were so pleased with the service and the room we decided to stay an extra night, i think she was called charlotte a credit to royal hotel, also wanted to mention frank in the dining room he was very professional,
we will definately be staying again.

the royle hotel in scarborough looked just the ticket on the internet and how right we were me and my wife spent 2 great nights there in a relaxing room and the food was exallent the staff were very helpful and the general manager came to ask how are stay was. we asked for a table for 2 in the sea veiw resaurant we were told they were all booked but the restaurant manager kindley got us one.what a brilliant weekend!!!!!!!

Enjoyable stay. Lovely room - very spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Very high standard food and helpful staff. Excellent location and would definitely go back.
