“Not going there again.”

This hotel must have drastically changed since last Oct. My wife& I went on a 60s themed weekend & the 60s music was a joke, more like karaoke down at my local.

The food was poor, a 3 course meal with not much choice & very small portions, we came out still hungry.
The room was small with a very small bathroom & a shortage of electric sockets
Parking was on a very busy street, we had to park on another street & we also had to buy a permit from the hotel, which I know they get for free.

The biggest ( or should I say smallest ) laugh was the lift, big enough for one person and a small suitcase.

“The right place for a relaxing weekend. Explore the area and enjoy your evenings.”

From our unexpected early arrival on Friday morning to our failure to leave the room key when we left on Sunday the Rivelyn staff were superb.
Using the Rivelyn as the base for visiting a load of interesting places all within 20 miles is a great idea, so long as you also check out Scarborough as well. The staff were helpfull in planning the days out.
It was a 60's weekend - the reason we were there. The entertainment was excellent. The musicians could not have been there in the 60's, but they got it right - trust me.
Of course the rooms reflect the limitations that reflect when they were built.
They have done a great job bringing them up to the standards a 21st century guest expects. Certainly value for money.
Both breakfast and evening meals were good quality (a limited menu) with very good service levels. The staff managed this in spite of having to simultaneously serve two coach parties (neither juvenile) against tight timescales to suit the coach tours.
Bar prices were competitive, given that there was entertainment. The were cheaper than the nearby younger theme bar.

“Management need to get a grip and sort this place out”

Booked Christmas 09 in Scarborough with Bowens Coach Tours. Arriving at the Rivelyn the weather outside was frosty and so was the temperature inside, our room only had a three bar electric fire, the radiator was stone cold. For the money paid for this four night stay we expected better. The room was very basic and poorly furnished. It was en-suite with a toilet and shower but the wash basin was in the bedroom giving no privacy at all. The room definately needed upgrading. Wall paper hanging off the walls on the stairwells and landings. One lift that we found only took two people so with a second coach arriving it was chaos to get down to the basement for meals for many who could not manage the stairs (and then back up again afterwards or just generally trying to get to reception or out of the hotel). The owners need to spend money and bring this hotel up to date or there will be many more like us saying never again. Good points, linen was very clean and white and the hot water in the basin was there straight away. There was a choice of three courses for dinner but the food was basic. Staff were good.

“good staff and entertainment ....but thats it.”

stayed at this hotel booked with a tour company and was looking forward to seeing scarborough which did not dissapoint. The hotel was described as being 5 minutes away from the centre of town but it was definately more 10 to 15 depending which way you walked. Also it was a good 15 to 20 mins to beach and fair area, this was fine in the day but not at night,so we had to pay for taxis in the evening, the location of the hotel is in a recidential area so there is not much to do in the day because the hotel does not have anything on offer .the decor was very dated and the toilets were tiny, the hotel was very very warm at night with the heating,we had to turn our radiator off to try and cool the room down.the entertainment on offer was very good caberet style, but not for younger people.
