“Excellent Turkey & Tinsel Coach Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We travelled with woods Coaches who have never let us down with their hotel choices and they certainly did not fail us on this occasion. We had a good-sized sea view room on this seafront hotel and having nothin but praise for the food and the service. The hotel was busy, coping with two coach tours at one time but they were well organised and served us well.

I'm sorry if some previous customers were disappointed but we would happily return.

Room Tip: Always try for a seaview room

“Family run hotel punches above its weight (AA 2-star)”

Overall good value for money, appreciated by all our family Christmas group - with two of us from the Baltics, seven from Germany, two from Switzerland, and one from England, age range 6 to 86, different income brackets, hence the choice of hotel. We had a third floor double bedded room with sea view (and sound). Another of the group had a first floor room with balcony. Both were satisfactory. The management were much in evidence, the staff (almost all from Central Eastern Europe) courteous and efficient. The standard of food was overall very high - e.g. the breakfast porage and fish (kippers and haddock - both the "real thing" without artificial colouring), memorable venison and calf liver for dinner. Though the hotel was full (100+ guests) space was always available in one of several lounges. This reviewer is a seasoned and regular traveller in Europe, used to mainly 4-5 star smaller hotels, so was pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: Front room with sea view/balcony probably advisable.

“Christmas 2011Ros.S”

4th year Christmas Break. As usual the Staff and food were first class. You are made to feel welcome and there are many small touches that enhance the whole experience eg a card and small gift of welcome in the room. The rooms are well decorated and beautifully clean.
The food is first class with a good variety of choice and the service is beyond reproach, you feel as though you are really special. It is a family hotel and the family personally are very appraochable. The hotel is on the sea front but also very close to the heart of the town. We have already provisionally booked for next year.

“Quite Simply.........a dreadfully grim experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We read the reviews and checked out the website and were so looking forward to our stay. It was very dark, wet and blowing a gale when we arrived...the car park was full so we were directed to a public car park and told to purchase a £1 parking ticket so we wouldn't get clamped in the morning...not a good start - this gave us until 0900!
We booked an upgraded room with a seaview, after climbing to the top of the hotel to what must have been the attic we opened the door to a very shabby low ceilinged room just big enough for a bed, wardrobe and desk.......the bedspread was stained (I dread to think with what). It was very very depressing.
The bathroom was very clean but tiny, nowhere to put cosmetics and very difficult to manouvere due to its size - very very basic!
The carpet was clean but the overall effect of the room was very grim and depressing. We changed quickly and carefully for our 4 course dinner..........................................things did not improve.
The dining room is very depressing and was absolutely full. We were showed to our table and then the fun started - we made our choice and before we could finish ordering our appetiser arrived (along with a number of others on large trays...they had clearly been made in batch). The food was awful - I had soup and my husband pate or terrine I can't recall. Then he had crabcakes deep fried to within an inch of their life...yuk, I had the mango sorbet - it was an ice cream, odd to have dessert before main course but it was better than his! Then we both had pork medallions swimming in a huge amount of sauce, potatoes and vegetables............the thing was the service was so fast - we were being offered our next course before finishing the current, it was hugely funny to watch but made for a dreadful dining experience....in the end we said we needed a break before dessert but the waitress kept hovering so in the end we gave up and ordered. There was no ambience in the hotel/bar it was gloomy so we went to bed thinking we would have an early night ready to get to the car park before we were clamped. It was just too cramped to do anything other than sleep, one couldn't relax in the room as it was so gloomy and cramped.
A restful night was impossible, the pillows were rock hard and the pillowcases a very rough cotton - we both woke with stiff necks. The mattress was really poor quality, very thin it was dreadful, really dreadful. I can't remember sleeping in such terrible conditions. The bed linen was all of a very poor quality. The door rattled all night which kept us both awake too. The seaview was great.
Breakfast was crowded but the quality was fine except for the scrambled egg which was congealed and solid.....couldn't eat it. We checked out quickly and thankfully found we had not been clamped.
I couldn't begin to recommend this hotel if you are looking for a weekend or even a night away, we felt shattered for the rest of the day due to the lack of sleep..........why do we Brits put up with this standard of hospitality!!

“A wonderful weekend break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We stayed here again on 9th and 10th December 2011, it was excellent we have stayed previoulsy but somehow they managed to improve on everything. We were a party of 12 and breakfast and dinner was wonderful, the service was fantastic aswe were all served together. The staff were very efficient and friendly. A great break leading up to Christmas

Room Tip: A room with a seaview is well worth the extra, although the road can be a bit noisy
