“beautiful memories”

I grew up in Sidmouth, and even after I left I would still come back and stay in this hotel with my Mother and sometimes my sister Mum loved it because of it's gracious charm, and the wonderful staff.
I think that if she could, she would have lived in it full time. To me, staying here was THE holiday, it was always a wonderful experience, and I miss the staff and Manuel who always took such great care of us.
Thank you for a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Room Tip: front facing rooms or corner facing Peak Hill for the views

“Old fashioned to suit Sidmouth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Sidmouth is an old fashioned town developed in Victorian times and the Victoria fits the general ambience. It is expensive unless there is a deal available and you need to be careful about choice of room. Ours was a refurbished one with a sea view. The decor and bathroom were good although the room was small. The view was mainly over the front of the hotel but we could see the sea. There are better rooms but at a cost.
It appeals to the older generation as does Sidmouth which is the nicest of the surrounding seaside towns.
The public rooms are comfortable with a pleasant view over the Bay.
The staff were helpful alhtough failed to do turndown on one night and we had to report a failed light 3 times.
The restaurant is good and the service efficient. The food was good and breakfast was excellent. The hotel requires men to have a jacket and tie.
The hotel is one of several owned by the Brend group in Devon and all seem to be of a similar standard.

Room Tip: go for a refurbished room which are very nice

“Expensive, but very very good.”

The Victoria Is a lovely old hotel with a special feel to it, it is like travelling back in time. It is elegant and sophisticated and a wonderful place to relax. Best points are the beautiful lounge and the first class restaurant ( jacket and tie compulsory! ) Downsides are the bedrooms which are old and tired and not really 4 star, and the prices. We only go when there are special offers as they are very expensive. Having said that, I look forward to going back.

“Great stay as usual”

I feel I need to add to all the other positive reviews I have read on here.
I am sure many younger people would not feel as comfortable as us (50's) as the hotel has a large proportion of older guests.
The same friendly faces are there time and again, a good sign of a happy well run ship.
If you want club/disco 18-30 type holidays stay well clear, but if you like a more refined and gentile break, you will be hard pressed to find better. Of course like any hotel you may get a sandwich that is not as good as you may wish,or some other small detail but go and enjoy.

“Excellent Pre Christmas Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Just had a fabulous pre Christmas break in this wonderful hotel. The staff could not do enough to make our stay so special. Our sea facing room was truly luxurious, with fresh fruit, chocolates, mini bar and an extremely comfortable bed. The cleanliness’ was superb, the whole hotel was spotless, and looked regal with the Xmas decorations.
Breakfast was cooked and served at the table, also an array of cold meats, and fruits of your choice available.
Evening meals were first class, the service was excellent.
The new spa area is great, quit relaxing and very enjoyable.
Will defiantly be back again to this lovely hotel. Thank you Mathew and your team, well done.
