I spent one night at The Devoran with my daughter and her husband - From the time we booked until we left we could not fault the Hotel, Service or Staff. In particular the Reception Staff were most helpful, even phoning me to say they had a Car Park vacancy.
Thanks to all concerned, I hope to visit again in the near future.
Sidmouth for the uninitiated is full of folk enjoying the Autumn of their years trying to imagine that they're back in the time of their youth. It's quite interesting to see!
This hotel is perfectly placed for a visit to thus octagenarian paradise. It's also quite a nice little British seaside hotel and the current owners are trying to put a professional slant on what is quite a tired hotel. On the whole they pull it off, but little things like NHS crockery and slightly effervescent tangy (read gone off...) Tomato juice doesn't make you feel too good about paying £110 a night.
Anyway I must grumble. I think to get the Sidmouth experience you have to stay in a hotel like this.
I orgainised a weekend with my whole family - getting on for 20 of us at the Kingswood and Devoran, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Service was always top notch, really personal and helpful, the staff could not do enough to help right from booking through to our stay and check out. The hotel offers excellent value for a dinner, B&B package, and all the party said that it was significantly better than much more highly priced, corporate hotels. Food was wonderful, really well cooked, tasty and plentiful, and service was very quick given the size of our group. As we were a large group, we were the noisiest people in the hotel, and when I apologised to the receptionist about this, she said how nice it was to hear a family all laughing together. Rooms, although some of them aren't huge, are very clean and comfortable. Sidmout itself is a lovely English seaside town, with a real old fashioned charm which we all loved as well.
We had a wonderful weekend at the Kingswood and Devoran, and would recommend it highly again for anyone wanting to organise a family get-away, or just for a quiet break.
My wife and I stay at the Kingswood every year for the Sidmouth Folk Festival. The location is superb, and you only have to cross the road to get to the beach. Some of the sea facing rooms have balconies, which are a great way to watch the world go by.
The staff are always welcoming and the service is always very good. This year the shower didn't work and we reported it on our way down to breakfast. When we returned from breakfast someone was already repairing the shower. I cannot recall such impressive service in any other hotel I have stayed in, and what is more, this was on a Sunday. I hasten to add that this is the first time that in 18 years that we have found fault with the room.
