On arrival we were greeted by John and Kate who asked us about our walk that day and our next destination (Lyme Regis). They were both very kind and friendly and instantly made us feel welcome in their home. The twin room was luxurious and well-appointed with a hospitality tray, walk-in shower and flat-screen TV. Breakfast the next morning was a lovely full English, which set us up for the walk ahead. Southcroft is a few minutes walk from a local pub, The Balfour, which offers good value for money and serves excellent pub grub.

John and Kate were good hosts and Kate gave us some advice about our walk which proved useful in powering us through the 17 mile leg the next day! When we checked out Kate recommended a pretty riverside walk to rejoin the South West Coast Path. Highly recommended.

I've just stayed three nights at Southcroft Guesthouse, a small B&B with, I believe, three rooms and a four star rating. I had a nice time there. The house is situated a mere fifteen minute walk from the beach. I had a small single room with a comparitively large window, so it didn't feel cramped. During the night it was dead-silent because it was at the back of the house. The breakfast (especially the sausages) was excellent with just about anything you wanted. The owners are very friendly people who made you feel at home. The single room has its own adjacent bathroom with a shower as well as a bath. All very clean and tidy. The owner has a nice collection of guitars and on leave he said I could have borrowed one to play in my room if he had known it the first day that I played guitar too. All in all a nice experience and I hope to be back one day because Sidmouth is a beautiful seaside resort with excellent walking paths.
