“Not a Pleasant Experience. AVOID!!!”

*** Overview

The price of our room was £45, but the perceived value we received was a lot less. I can only say please avoid this hotel. The level of dirt and filth was astonishing. Even Basil Fawlty would have been shocked by this experience. Only use this establishment if you can’t get accommodation nearby for a similar price and you are staying for 1 night. I am not a fussy person, but this was beyond a joke. Some more in depth information below:

*** Location

About a mile away from the centre of Slough and within easy reach from the M25/M4 and Heathrow, the hotel’s location is ideal if you are on business or seeking a place to lay your head before catching a flight.

*** Exterior and Parking

Not shabby but not particularly appealing either. Parking was easy as it was in front of the hotel, just off the main busy road. However, when my partner asked if we were ok where we were parked, she was met with a grumpy and frankly rude attitude from the guy on reception who then showed her to our room and left without saying much or even offering a glimmer of a smile. It seemed that most of the vehicles in the car park are owned by the family who own the premises so if the hotel is busy, you may find it hard to park. We thought that judging by the exterior, Skyways Hotel may well be ok. We were wrong.

*** The Bedroom – Room 126

Absolutely disgusting. Although the room is big, it is too cluttered and filled with too much furniture; a double bed, a single bed (even though we booked a double room), a wardrobe and a desk, on which stood a television and hospitality tray. The double bed had an ok mattress but with thin see-through sheets with a zebra print blanket inside a duvet cover. The single bed blocked the radiator. The television worked, but the remote (which was grimy) didn’t correlate with the right channels i.e. BBC 1 was on channel 3 etc... The wardrobe stunk of smoke (although a non-smoking room) so you couldn’t put any clothes inside. The carpet was stained. There were smears on the walls that looked like excrement plus chewing gum on the bedside light. The wallpaper was peeling off due to damp.

*** The Bathroom

The bathroom was big and spacious. Whilst using the shower, the tray filled up quickly, probably due to a blockage. The cause of this was probably that the plughole had no sort of a filter or cover and therefore was just a hole leading to the pipes. There wasn’t any soap or shower gel (not that we were expecting it) but there was a horrible manky used bar of pink soap in the shower. The sink plug was broken and had been left on top of the toilet unit. More smears were present with cobwebs. The vanity light didn’t work and there was a plastic air freshener on top of it which was covered in dust and hair.

*** The Breakfast

I simply couldn’t bring myself to eat in such a place that didn’t clean their rooms to any basic standard at all. It may have been a really nice breakfast made in a clean kitchen, but if I was betting on that, I would expect to lose my money. There is an Indian Restaurant on site too, but again left that well alone but can’t give any opinion.

*** Customer Service

The owners and workers at this establishment are rude and in dire need to attend a customer service seminar/training course.

“Don't go here if you like to sleep!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Had to stay here on Business as we were attending an exhibition at Windsor racecourse and all the other hotels in the area were fully booked! I have to say 1st impression I thought it was not too bad, altough the reception was grubby and old leather unmatching furniture was randomly placed everywhere but my room as whole was ok, large. massive bed, clean and ok for 1 night or so I thought. I was on the groundfloor at the very front of the hotel so I had a huge bay window and I did feel a bit vunerable but thought well its one night I will be ok. How wrong could I be, I went to bed around midnight and after half an hour as I was nodding off I became aware of loud agressive voices of young men right outside my door, they were smoking outside my window and this was drifting into my room and the chaos and commotion got worse and worse and at one point I thought they were going to come crashing through my bedroom door. My colleague who was in the room upstairs text to see if I was ok and he then contacted reception to advise them of the problem, it was now around 1am and cars were comimg and going, room doors were being slammed voices were raised and my room was smelling badly of smoke. The guy on reception didn't seem to do a thing, after about 5 calls and a threat of calling the police he eventually intervened and advised them to be quiet and this happened for all of 5 minutes and then the chaos continued into the small hours with numerous phone calls to reception they eventually evicted these youths at around 4.30am so I think I finally got to sleep at 5am and had to be up at 7am!! In the morning we complained to reception and told them what had happened and how we felt, and all we got from the female owner was a shrug and told we had the rooms cheap enough so there was nothing she could do, no apology from her or anything! So I would never stay here again, it was a horrific experience and one I never want to happen again, I even consider packing my stuff and going to sleep in my car!!! Avoid this place at all costs!!

Room Tip: Book early and stay somewhere else!!

“Well, where to begin?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

If you are booking a hotel right now for someone else, who you hate, and will take pleasure in their suffering, you have found the right place to send them. It was a few years ago when we stayed but I still talk about this place: It was the night the clocks went back, Breakfast was supposed to be served up until 10am, so I went to bed in the full knowledge that the next day I would wake up with that whole extra hour to wallow in, wonderful! Imagine our disappointment when I arrive for breakfast at 09.00 GMT, only to be told that I had missed breakfast, because they still believed it was it was 10am. When I spoke up about the whole 'clocks going back' idea, they insisted that they 'Did not do that'. I then had to explain, slowly, that the daylight savings time thing was not really something where you can 'opt out'. Even strangers started speaking up in my defence, pointing out what the real time was. Anyway, in the end, I demanded the Breakfast I had paid for, eventually it came and I felt ill for a few days (there's a moral in there I think). Besides this peculiar event, every other aspect of the hotel was utterly terrible.

Granted this was a few years ago now, but it seems from the reviews they have managed to go beyond the bottom of the barrel.

Room Tip: Any room in any other hotel, faling that, they sell tents in tesco these days.

“Poor Communication”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Reception denied they were holding any messages for us. However, we subsequently learnt that our friends had phoned twice, we, therefore missed meeting up with them. The room was dirty the carpet torn and stained. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Avoid we find accommodation elsewhere.

“Not as bad as I was expecting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

The reviews are terrible, but I had a minisuite to myself. A little shabby, but for the price not bad. Hard to recommend but an excellent price & it served my purpose well.
