I had made a reservation through the Marriott website for a senior discount weekend rate which included breakfast. When I checked in, the receptionist hinted that I was paying way too much, but then softened her criticism a bit by remarking that at least the rate included breakfast. I did not pursue the issue because I was very short of time. When I reached my room, I found it had a standard double bed, even though my confirmation promised a king or queen bed. Back to the front desk, and this time was given a room with a king size bed, but also a defective swivel desk chair with a ten degree forward tilt - rather uncomfortable, but I had more important things to do than keep changing rooms, including returning to the airport to exchange a defective rental car. Next morning I discovered that the bathroom vent fan did not work at all, and the only way to clear out the steam after using the shower was to use the trash bin to prop open the bathroom door. The prices for internet service turned out to be ridiculous (£6 per hour, £15 per day, £75 per week) and so I did not try it. The waitress at breakfast was so slow that she did not even greet me until I had finished eating from the buffet and was getting up to leave, even though there were hardly any other customers in the restaurant at that time, and so I had no tea or coffee with my breakfast. The parking arrangements turned out to be very confusing because a separate company tracks the license plates and bills a penalty of £90 to anyone who parks for more than 30 minutes without paying to park. The receptionist had not told me this when I checked in, and so I failed to pay for parking the defective rental car that I returned to the airport, until I checked out of the hotel two days later. At checkout, the front desk clerk erroneously charged my room rate to the credit card I had presented at check-in, even though I had already placed a pile of cash on the counter, and it took him several minutes to find out how cancel the credit card charge. Next time, I will stay somewhere else, mainly because dealing with the poorly trained and managed staff here is so tedious.
Room Tip: The receptionist may not give you the type of room you reserved, so check every detail including bed...
