“Mixed but could improve”

A convenient spot for an overnight stay before an early flight from Manchester Airport. Good value for money.
Room was nicely done but really smelt of cigarette smoke especially in the bathroom. Obviously some selfish person had smoked in it. Staff helpful in booking an early taxi for us.
Pillows very thin and no extra ones available. Only one hot chocolate in a double room. Not staffed in the evening - have to go to the pub for requests.
Pub next door was excellent - friendly staff and atmosphere.
In all good for one nights stay but could be bought up to a good standard with a few minor changes.

“MIXED”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

PLUSES:The Bull's Head Lodge was in a very handy location and fair value for money.
We had no problems with cleanliness in the bedroom, bathroom.or corridor.
Bedding was also clean.
There was ample tea, coffee, milk and sugar in the bedroom..
*** Breakfast was excellent***

MINUSES: There were no toiletries except for wall-mounted liquid soap over the washbasin and bath. The one over the washbasin was empty.
Only one packet of 3 biscuits and one sachet of hot chocolate - in a double room.
The mattress was quite thin and had audible springs.
There was no valance on the bed which left the divan base on show with it's torn covering.
There were only two thinnish pillows on the double bed and only one extra one in the wardrobe.

WORST POINTS: Breakfast was available 7.00am till 9.00am.
We left our room at 8.40 and as we passed reception the receptionist said that she had just rung us as we were about to miss our breakfast.
Once we had placed our order and helped ourselves to fruit etc from the breakfast bar, everything was immediately cleared away with lots of rattling and banging of pots etc.
We ordered one tea and one coffee. The tea came in a pot but the coffee in a cup. I had to ask for a second cup.
We were back in our room by 9.20am. Check-out time was 10.30am so we decided to rest after our very rushed breakfast.
After twenty minutes there was a knock on the door. We called out "hello" expecting that whoever it was would have apologised and gone away.
But the voice continues speaking until we went to open the door.
It was the receptionist who said that she had just come to check that the window fastened properly. She said that it was part of the regular maintenance check. We asked if she could leave it till we had left, which she did.
As we left (at 10.15am) we said goodbye to the receptionist. Before the front door had closed behind us we heard her on the phone telling someone that they could clean our room now.

What a shame that our stay was spoiled by the unseemly haste to feed us and get us out. Not the relaxing start to the day we had expected

“Great value, great food”

Couple of girlie days away with friends so perfect. I flew into Manchester airport, and in 10 minutes we were at the lodge. Ok, not 5 star, but for 55 and 44 pounds / night it was excellent. Dennis, the owner tells us it is being refurbished soon (paintwork etc looks bit tired).
Altrincham shopping during the day, fabulous evening meal at the Bulls Head in the evening and a short walk to bed.
We took a cab into Manchester for the day (15 pounds) but returned back again for a great evening meal so location is great. The pub has a really nice, cosy warm atmosphere.
Room has everything we needed, and we had rooms with interconnecting doors, so again great for us. Tv. Kettle, good shower. Bed bit lumpy with springs.
Breakfast is continental or full English (7.95). We only had it on 2nd day as loads of places to eat local or manchester ( as we did). Chef appeared and asked how we'd like our eggs, and to help ourselves. Again, great food and we helped ourselves to coffee until well after checkout time.
Staff were so friendly, including bar staff, reception and chef. We had ground floor rooms overlooking bowling green. Very quiet, great sleep. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Ground floor, overlooking bowling green

Had a one night stay before traveling to Manchester Airport.
Room was better than expected for the price.
Food at the adjioning pub was very good and reasonably priced.
Five to ten minutes drive from airport, depending on traffic.
Will definitely use this hotel agian in the future.

“Excellent Hotel close to Manchester Airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We stayed at the Bull's Head and Lodge on our way home to Canada after an extended visit to the UK. We booked an Arrow Taxi at Manchester Airport for the trip to the Bull's head and back the next morning. The cost was 14 pounds for the two of us return. The taxi arrived on time next morning for our trip back the the Airport. We stayed in the Lodge and had a room over looking the bowling green. The room was clean, tidy and well equipped with tea, coffee making facilities, trouser press, good shower with lots of hot water. We arrived at the Bull's head with 4 large suitcases and didn't fancy taking them up a flight of stairs to our room, but this was solved as the on duty manager opened the laundry room for us to leave our luggage. . We didn't eat at the Bulls head this time but instead walked to the near by small shopping plaza and ordered a wonderful take away pizza from That Pizza Place. We have eaten at the Bull's Head on other occasions and found the meals to be typical pub grub and enjoyed it all. A double room at the lodge cost us 44 pounds for the night and I consider it money well spent and will certainly stay there on our next trip to the UK and have no hesitation in recommending it to other travellers as long as they realise this isn't a six star hotel but an easy to get to/ from airport hotel. We will be staying here again.
