Very enjoyable for a quiet weekend away. My only criticism is that the hotel is in need of refurbishment as it looks rather dated.

I have had a lodge at Craigendarroch for over 20 years and the service is always excellent at the hotel. Set amid idyllic surroundings and a short walk from the lovely village of Ballater, Craigendarroch is simply a wonderful place to relax away from the madness of the modern world.

I arranged a 3 night break for my parents at this hotel. It was my mother's 80th Birthday.
They had a wonderful time. Wonderful upgraded room with a lovely view.
Hotel staff very friendly and made their stay very welcoming.

As we were staying in a lodge, I only wish to comment on the Oaks Restaurant and Study Bar.

A 'meal out' in the Oaks on our last evening in the lodge is always something to look forward to. The Study Bar with its open fire and wonderful collection of old books (I picked up a book on Romans written in Danish this time!) is a lovely place to start the evening with a drink. The food in the Oaks is excellent and really very good value (just under £30 for 3 courses) compared with equivalent restaurants in the Ballater area. The canapes and 'freebies' are a lovely touch and delicious. The service is excellent - the lovely Hungarian waitress is both efficient and attentive - she remembered us from just one visit this time last year which was truly impressive. The Swedish bar manager also gave extremely good service. The only downside is that the Oaks can lack a bit of atmosphere as it is usually no-where near full: hardly the restaurant's fault, and on this occasion it was busy enough to be cheerful. Highly recommended.
