“Truly Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

This was the worst hotel I have ever experienced. I stayed here with a group of friends (we had booked three double rooms) and none of us could sleep because the beds were so awful. It was like sleeping on an airbed which had only been partially inflated, with springs sticking into your body. One of my friends gave up and slept on the floor! The bathrooms smelt very unpleasant too.

On the second night, we were moved to a disabled room which was an improvement. Nevertheless, I would never recommend staying here and after this experience, I will never stay in a Travelodge again.

“Mixed bag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

Stayed here over the last 6 months on a number of occasions. The family rooms are better than the single rooms, so try to bag one of these. You are on the old Texas Instruments car park, so be prepared to have noisy industrial units with air con around you. You are near Clapham Sainsbury's (off the roundabout, not 24 hours), so do shop there before you settle down for the night. The £1. for parkingfor your entire stay is odd and don't see why this cannot be added to the bill when you book. The rooms were always fairly clean, but never spotless. It is off course cheap & cheerful!

“Does what it says on the tin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2010

Basic but fine. A clean room with what you need for an overnight stay. No more, no less. Staff not very welcoming but efficient. £1 car park charge irritating. At £32 will use again.

“So many insects, David Bellamy would have been at home!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2009

Dead flies on the window sill in such abundance, I thought they had kamikaze specials in, should have put on on the alert; but we only wanted a bed for the night, so dropped our bags and set off. We asked the receptionist where the Twinwood Arena was as we were going to the Proms. "Oh," she said, "Loads of people have been asking that today and I haven't got a clue" (shouldn't you be aware of local amenities and IF more than one person is asking for information, shouldn't you at least found out for anymore guests who ask?)
So coming back at 12.30 and going into the room we were aware of something 'scurrying' in the bathroom. The large centipede wasn't put off by the light and continued dancing across the bathroom floor - to be joined by his friend by the toilet - yuck. Having desposed of them to a watery end; we went to bed exhausted as we had an early start - so it seemed did the large beetle who popped out from under the bed as I got up to go to the bathroom.
ENOUGH, we had a quick shower and left.
The room couldn't have been more BASIC. Only one pillow each, no bathmat, one handtowel and the smallest bar of soap ever (at 15grams, that's less than an ounce!)
We paid £50, although I know that deals are being done by Travelodge we weren't able to get one and the insects stayed for free!

“Not your standard Travelodge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2009

I stay a lot in Travelodges, normally at discounted rates, and its hard to describe them as poor value for money. But this one is a little quirky, and I think its best to know in advance.

It seems to have been built in the car park of an adjacent factory, who appear to still own the land. When we arrived at night the huge car park was empty, but you are not allowed to park outside the front door. To save time moving your car, drive right around anticlockwise and park up there. In the morning, work has started and the car park is full! There is an extra £1 to pay per stay for the car park, more an annoyance than a severe charge. Then you need a token to get out of the car park - sometimes - as there is a barrier on the exit that is open sometimes and closed at others. Again, an unnecessary annoyance.

My biggest issue though was the noise from the 'landlord' factory which prevented having the windows open overnight, which I strongly prefer.
