I dined with a friend mid week we were very impresed by the welcome we recieved and the courtousy of the staff. We both ordered slamon which was delicious and very well presented
with care and attention to our satisfaction excellent selection of wine by the glass to choose from .The Restaurant was busy and the food was very reasonably priced we would highly recomend a meal in the Barnes Restaurant .

From the moment we were shown into the Bar (as we arrived slightly earlier than anticipated) to the moment we left the Restaurant we were shown wonderful hospitality by the staff - very courteous, friendly and helpful in every way and we were seated by the window, overlooking the frozen river which was very picturesque and romantic. The 3 course meal itself was second to none and of an exceptional standard - as was the service. We felt very warm and full when we left. Definitely would recommend to family, friends and colleagues!

This was a wonderful combination of the relaxed and luxurious. Very comfortable and well-appointed room; excellent all-round facilities; very helpful and friendly staff. I was there for a friends' daughters' 21st party - which was excellent in itself. I highly recommend the functions facilities.

My wife and I traveled as part of a larger group for the New Years Eve do. The hotel itself was very good - clean well furnished rooms and a nice feel to it. The party night itself was also pretty good but was not in the barn itself, and we did feel slightly cramped in the other function room. The dance floor was also fairly restricted for space. The food and service were good though and we did enjoy the night despite these minor flaws.
Our major gripe was the fact that two couples in our group were moved to another hotel - they had advised that this would be happening the day before and The Barns paid for the return taxi's to the other hotel etc. but it took the edge off what was supposed to be a group get together. They explained this away by claiming that the "rooms had been trashed by the previous guests". I accept that this can happen but it became less believable when they refused to let us look in the affected rooms on "health and safety" grounds. A deputy manager was given the job of fielding our doubts over this and the complaint as "no-one else was available" but when someone more senior appeared later without comment our earlier suspicions were reinforced. It was a shame as it did take the edge off what could have been a great night and the hotel did eventually offer reasonable compensation but we didn't feel that we received the whole truth which is a shame.
None of the other guests seemed to be affected and I didn't sense that this was a regular occurrence - we were just unlucky but because of this we wouldn't personally return. 4/5 for the hotel and 2/5 for service due to our friends room incident.
