We arrived at the hotel on the afternoon of Friday 27th January 2012 and departed on Sunday morning and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were extremely friendly and no request was too much trouble for any of them that we met. In terms of overall value for money for a weekend away it would take some beating, and we do go away on quite a few trips these days.
We stayed at the Crown & Mitre in February 2011 too, and the same comments apply, although the food was probably a tad better overall last February.When we booked the break we were told that if the weather was too bad to travel up from Yorkshire that particular weekend, then we would be able to reschedule our visit. Many places may just have pocketed the money and thought "thanks for not coming"!!
We would unreservedly recommend this hotel which has bags of character, and is a complete contrast to many soulless post-1970 built hotels. Well done everyone and we look forward to returning to Carlisle to stay with you again next year.

Excellent service from helpful, cheerful staff. Recently refurbished the rooms are spacious and well kept. Ideal city centre location with secure free parking. This was my second time at the Crown & Mitre and I would certainly recommend the hotel for business or pleasure. On a business level the conference facilities are excellent.

We took advantage of Peel Hotels special offer and stayed Sat/Sun 21st/22nd January 2012 with D, B & B. Having read mixed reviews I contacted the Manager, David Crossley, before our arrival and found him extremely helpful in ensuring we had a decent room. The hotel is in the middle of on-going refurbishment (work in progress) so some rooms may not be up to modern standards, also the carpets in public areas (and the suite we were in) were well worn.
Mr Crossley & his staff were without exception friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to ensure their guests enjoyed their stay. The food is simply delicious. There is a D.I.Y toaster in the breakfast room, but we were supplied with toast of our choice by the staff on both mornings - very pleasant! Mr Crossley showed us some executive rooms (newly refurbished) before we left and we can certainly recommend them. They had large screen TV's with SKY Sports - a must for us! If you need to watch e.g Football on ESPN they will put it on the right channel in the bar lounge - you don't need to eat or drink at the same time. We shall be definitely returning to this hotel. Useful secure car park.

A special offer from Peel Hotels found us in Carlisle for two nights, dinner, bed and breakfast. The hotel is right in the centre and very handy for sightseeing. It has a secure car park at the rear. A recently refurbished pool and jacuzzi were very welcome and the hotel,provided towels. Our deal included a three course dinner which was excellent and the breakfast was equally tasty. The staff in the main were very good. Our only criticism was that our room was designated executive but it was only what we would expect of a normal double room.
